Through August 31st, you can earn double airline miles from the online hotel booking site, PointsHound! PointsHound is a 3rd party hotel booking site that gives perks in the term of airline miles to the customer for using their site. They allow you to earn miles on over 150,000 hotels around the world in 10 frequent flier currencies (including US Airways, Delta, American Airlines, Virgin America, Hawaiian Airlines, and more). This 2x bonus time means it might be a good time to try this site out if you have some hotels you need to book.
I am going to need a handful of Hyatt mattress runs to hit 25 stays and re-qualify for Diamond status (the benefits I get will far outweigh what I spend on these otherwise unnecessary stays). I want to time these stays during the upcoming Hyatt promo to get as many points as possible for them, but now it seems I can also pair them with a double miles booking promo from PointsHound! One thing I really like about PointsHound is that with their “Double Up” option you can also earn hotel points elite status credit even though you are booking via a 3rd party site. You do have to specifically select this option, and typically it pays out a lower number of miles than the non-Double Up options.
It my case, the Hyatt Place IAH is selling for $71 per night all-in on PointsHound for the October date I’m looking at. This was the same lowest price that I saw on Hyatt’s site. It is a non-refundable rate, so I’m not sure if I will do it or not, but it is a pretty good price for a mattress run. Booking it by August 31 means I would get double miles from PointsHound (400 US Airways miles, instead of the normal 200 miles for this booking). I would also get the 500 miles first booking bonus (which you should also get by signing up with my link – I get no miles for referring you) for a total of 900 US Airways miles for a booking I was going to make anyway. This will stack with getting my hotel points and credit toward elite status and the current Hyatt promo.
Many reservations give you quite a few more miles than my first example, though your specific earning rates will depend on some on what “level” you are with PointsHound. I did a search for a hotel in NYC and it came back with the Grand Hyatt for one night at $427 with a booking bonus of 10,350 US Airways miles (non Double-Up option). To many, those US Airways miles would be worth close to $200 all by themselves, so that really is substantial.
I have seen suites and more expensive rooms in Vegas come back with huge numbers like 30,000 – 40,000 miles per night and up! Most of us aren’t often in the market for rooms that expensive, but as always it is handy to get an extra perk for something we were going to get anyway.
I am going to play around with the rates and options a bit more and will likely make my first PointsHound booking during this 2x bonus. Good luck if you decide to go for it as well!
