Starwood Preferred Guest has announced details regarding their next “Bring On The Nights” promotion.  In my mind, this is a good news bad news situation.

SPG Promotion Mommy Points
Good news:

Other than the obvious fact that any promotion is generally good news, this promo has no excluded properties, and will span from January 5 – April 30, 2014.  Having no excluded properties is actually pretty great news for a SPG promo.  They have also provided plenty of advanced notice for the promotion, so you can make your bookings accordingly!

The bad news:

The bad news is that the promo isn’t very good.  You earn 2,500 bonus Starpoints for every five eligible nights you stay (up to 10,000 bonus Starpoints and 20 eligible nights). Plus, get an additional 5,000 bonus Starpoints when you hit 25 eligible nights.

This is essentially an extra 500 points per night, if you stay in a multiple of five nights during the promo, up to 20 nights.  If you happen to stay 25 nights and get the full 15,000 points, that comes out to an average of 600 extra points per night.  That is pretty weak considering you can get 500 extra points just for turning down a day of housekeeping via their Green Choice option.  However, they could have no promo, and obviously that would be even worse from a points earning perspective.  SPG points are pretty hard to come by and it doesn’t look like that is changing with this promotion.

Registration starts in mid-December and I’ll post a reminder when that happens, or you can have the SPG website linked above send you a text when registration opens.  Call me a pessimist if you must, but I highly doubt the start of 2014 will bring many/any highly lucrative hotel promotions.  Hotel business seems to be pretty good, and I think this will be pretty par for the course for the chains that choose to offer promotions, though I would love to be proven wrong.

Thanks to Very Good Points for sharing news of this new promo!
