Card offers from American Express have changed. Please go here for current offer.
The Card Match Tool found on the website creditcards.com has been a great source for some pretty lucrative, yet targeted, American Express sign-up bonus offers off and on this year. Today it seems that an improved offer for the American Express Premier Rewards Gold card is available for some lucky individuals! I will add that the offer did not come up for the couple family members I checked for, so I don’t know if they just had bad luck, or if this is pretty targeted. I already have the card, so didn’t expect to be targeted.
The targeted offer, as seen on 11/25, is for 50,000 Membership Reward points after spending $1,000 in the first three months. There is a $0 introductory annual fee the first year, and a $175 annual fee in subsequent years. This is double the standard sign-up bonus of 25,000 points after spending $2,000 in the first three months, so it is a great time to get this card if it has been on your wish list.
In addition to the sign-up bonus, it is great in certain categories as it earns 3x on flights booked with airlines and 2x on the family-friendly categories of US gas stations and US supermarkets.
Some popular uses of Membership Reward points are to transfer to British Airways (to fly partners American and Alaska), transfer to Aeroplan or ANA (to fly United and other Star Alliance partners), or to transfer through Virgin Atlantic to eventually get to Hilton at a rate of 1:2. They also periodically offer transfer bonuses to specific hotel and airline partners, and currently there are a couple of transfer bonuses available (though you may not get your points in time to take advantage of these specific offers). If you desire, you can also use your points essentially as cash at a rate of one point equals one cent. That means this sign-up bonus is worth a minimum of $500.
Note that the terms indicate that the welcome bonus is not available to applicants who have had this product in the last 12 months or any other consumer Zync, Green, Gold, or Platinum card in the last 90 days. This means that any Amex business cards should not be an issue, but be sure that none of your Amex personal cards make you ineligible for the bonus points.
Good luck if you were targeted and decide to go for this offer, and thanks to The Points Guy for sharing the great news that this deal has returned to the CardMatch Tool for some people! Feel free to share in the comments section if this or another similar offer was available to you via CardMatch. Hope you have better luck than my family members did!
