One of my favorite benefits of the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express and Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Card from American Express is that they each offer two stay credits and five night credits towards SPG status annually.

Between the two cards (since the benefits stack) that’s four stays and 10 nights towards Starwood Preferred Guest status annually, which is an awesome value given that the annual fee is only $65 per card and I’d otherwise probably be mattress running for those stays/nights.

Anyway, I just noticed that for 2013 the four stays and 10 nights towards status already posted to my SPG account. Going back a couple of years they’d only post in February, so it’s nice that they moved up the posting date. If you have either/both of the cards, double check and make sure that your elite nights/stays posted as well. Furthermore, if you don’t have the card yet you can still get these stay/night credits by applying now, and the stay and night credits should post within a few weeks.

The fact that I’ve spent every night so far this year at a Starwood property means I already have six stays and 18 nights towards status thanks to the four stay credits and 10 nights from the Starwood American Express — woohoo!

This benefit has become even more valuable to me over the past couple of years. In early 2012 Starwood introduced additional elite benefits, including 10 suite night awards for Platinum members that stay 50 nights per year. You can qualify for Platinum status on either 25 stays or 50 nights, and in the past I’d usually qualify on the former, meaning I wouldn’t be eligible for the 10 suite night awards. However, those suite night awards are worth a lot to me, since they allow me to confirm a suite upgrade five days before arrival for the stays that matter most to me. Qualifying for that is much easier when I “only” have to really make 40 stays instead of 50 stays.

    Mine is posted too.

Question: if I cancel the card now, will the credit be removed?

This isn’t exactly on topic, but I thought I’d let you know: JAL has started imposing fuel surcharges on Emirates awards

Ben, are you meaning to say that if we apply for the cards now, we can get room credits for both 2013 AND 2104?

@ Peter — You would get them for 2014 and any future year. You can’t get them for last year anymore.
