BAcon: Day 2

Yesterday I posted about Day 1 of Randy Petersen’s BAcon conference at the beautiful Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs.

Day 2 began early with Randy leading a recap of the previous day and an introduction to what we can look forward to today. This day was different because there were actually two tracks running at the same time, one for Boarding Area bloggers and another for guest bloggers. Of course, I attended the BA sessions and was fortunate that my husband Bruce was along so he attended the guest sessions.

The first morning Boarding Area session was led by two of BA’s very own, the bloggers for Points, Miles, and Martinis and Frequent Miler. They each discussed their passions for miles and points and gave us some great blogging tips on how they have attracted a growing audience on BoardingArea. Their talks and blogging ideas were quite inspiring. The guest track was led by Daraius Dubash, blogger for Million Mile Secrets, perfect for my husband since he shares a similar background with the blogger.

The next session, all bloggers, joined Randy for what he called Mashup. Here we had an opportunity to ask questions and get feedback from our fellow bloggers. Such great info was shared in this session! No time for breaks, next up was a working lunch meeting discussing affiliate relationships followed by an outstanding session led by Andy Hayes on ways to improve our blog sites for a better reader experience. Readers, I think you’ll see several changes across many blogs in the upcoming weeks that will help for better reading. Our final session of the day was on mobile sites and YouTube, topics of interest to all bloggers with the growing number of smart phones and tablets and video.

Finally, a short break for resting up for the “secret” evening Randy had planned for us. I was sure this would be a blockbuster and Randy delivered.
At 6 pm, Randy was our shuttle bus driver to a Western bar-b-que dinner sponsored by Delta Air Lines. The food was great and the entertainment provided by The Flying W Wranglers was down home fun.

That would have been the perfect ending for an incredible day but of course, Randy had more planned for us. Fulfilling one of my dreams, the evening continued at the fabled House of Miles. Randy opened his house and his heart to us, leaving us with memories that will last a lifetime.

The non-stop day finally ended around 11 pm. Tomorrow is Day 3, our final day here in Colorado Springs. Time to let it go and get some sleep but that’s difficult because the adrenaline is still pumping. Unfortunately, I will miss Day 3 as my flight-time is early to get me back to Norway for client work. Though Bruce will be there taking it all in and sending me lots of notes.

  1. Thank you for sharing your BAcon experience with us! I used to read FlyerTalk a lot when I had more free time but nowadays I’m simply too busy and prefer to read BA blogs to learn the “highlights” of whatever is happening in the points/miles world.

  2. Great summary. I would say day #2 will go down in the history books as one of the inflection points in my blogging career and love the way hanging out together started and solidified relationships all around.

  3. Thanks Joey! For me this event was wonderful as well as I’m also a reader of the other BA blogs. It was great to put faces to the names!
