United MileagePlus Premier Status Match Challenge – Status Matches to Premier 1K??

by Adam

United is currently running a status match challenge, matching status from many other airlines with comparable MileagePlus status. The offer is valid for requests received between January 1 and April 30. Accounts are upgraded for 90 days and you’ll have to meet specific terms to keep the status longer:

Time your challenge wisely. Customers who meet the flight requirements on or after July 1, 2013 will retain their matched Premier status through January 31, 2015, whereas matched status prior to July will expire on January 31, 2014.

Now, The Weekly Flyer even reports on United matching up to Premier 1K status and he has a copy of a confirmation email sent from United confirming the challenge. If you are matched to 1K status you’ll need 35,000 Premier qualifying miles (PQM) or 40 Premier qualifying segments (PQS) on flights operated by United®, United Express® or Copa within that 90-day timeframe.

Please note:

  • Offer is not valid for members who have participated in the OnePass or MileagePlus status match program within the last 5 years.
  • A Premier membership card will be not issued for the 90-day qualification period. You may enjoy Premier benefits on United, United Express or Copa-operated flights, by providing your account number when making reservations or at check-in. During the 90-day period, you may not have access to all reciprocal Premier benefits with United’s partner airlines including access to Star Alliance lounges.
  • Through this offer, you will not be able to qualify for a higher Premier status level than the one you are matched to in MileagePlus. For example, if you are matched to Premier Silver, you will not be able to earn Premier Gold status through this offer, even if you will fly more than 12,500 United or Copa PQM in the offer period. However, you will still be able to qualify to a higher status level if you reach one of the published qualification thresholds for Premier status.
  • If you are unable to complete the PQM or PQS requirement within the 90-day period, your matched MileagePlus Premier status will expire and you may be returned to a lower Premier level, or general member status, at United’s sole discretion.
  • Qualifying PQM or PQS must be posted to your MileagePlus account.

The linked page says customers who are Star Alliance Silver or Gold are excluded from the offer, unfortunately.

I signed up for the challenge at the end of 2011. I didn’t think it was anything new?

From United:
We’re always glad to hear from MileagePlus® members like you. Thanks for writing.

Congratulations! You have been awarded a trial period of Premier® Platinum status in the MileagePlus® program! This will make your travel with us comfortable, simple and more rewarding than ever.

Your status will be effective for 90 days. Your 90 day time frame will be April 18, 2013 through July 17, 2013. To remain a Premier Platinum member through 2013, you will need to fly 18,000 Premier qualifying miles (PQM) or 22 Premier qualifying segments (PQS) on flights operated by United®, United Express® or Copa within that 90-day timeframe*.

If you meet the above required PQM or PQS threshold(s), a Premier Platinum kit will be issued and mailed to you. Until you have a card, be sure to add your MileagePlus number to your reservation in order to benefit from your Premier status.

•*Please note that qualifying activity for this promotion includes only base PQM/PQS and class-of-service bonus PQM/PQS earned on flights operated by United, United Express or Copa, and credited to your MileagePlus account. Any other bonus PQM/PQS, promotional PQM/PQS, credit card PQM, or PQM/PQS earned on other Star Alliance carriers do not count toward qualification for this promotion.

MileagePlus members are allowed to earn Premier status through the Premier Status Match program a maximum of one time in a five year period. In order to re-qualify for Premier Platinum status in subsequent years, you will need to meet the published criteria.

Currently, Premier Platinum status can be earned by flying 75,000 PQM or 90 PQS (including four flights operated by United, United Express or Copa) between January 1 and December 31 of each calendar year. For details about the MileagePlus Premier program, visit http://www.mileageplus.com/premier.

I hope you will travel with us often and take advantage of the exceptional benefits and service reserved for our Premier members around the world. Thank you for choosing United, and enjoy your Premier Platinum membership.

We appreciate you taking the time to contact us.

Regards,
MileagePlus

United Premier Match Offer Staff,

I observed a recent offer on the United website in the Mileage Plus News and Offer aimed at other airline program loyalty members who have no status with United.

MileagePlus Premier Status Match Challenge
http://www.united.com/web/en-US/apps/mileageplus/promotions/registrationDetails.aspx?promoCode=TB8230

However, I do note the one line paragraph on program criteria that indicates that this offer is excluded from current customers who have Star Alliance Silver or Gold status. I currently hold Silver Status, but since being a United Mileage Plus member I have only had any status, silver only, twice since joining in 1995.

I request you be considerate to waive the alliance status exclusion and provide me the temporary matching status level as a sign of commitment to your loyal customers. This waiver would be in keeping with the high level of customer service I have come to expect from United when I have flown with you more often in the last two years. While most of my flights are business related, having loyalty program status is a major influencer in my airline selection choice, especially when selecting personal flights.

I currently hold Delta Platinum and this would match to Premier Platinum.

Should you wish to reward your loyal customers, my next journey begins DD MMM YYYY. Having the upgraded status would be most appreciated and will have direct impact into my travel experience.
