Update On Korean Air Award Flights To French Polynesia With Chase Ultimate Rewards - Points Miles and Martinis

Korean Air called me today to clarify the 90,000 mile SkyPass award to French Polynesia. On Monday I wrote in detail how to book the Korean Air SkyPass 90,000 Business Class award to French Polynesia by using the Chase Ultimate Reward sign up bonuses. The airline agent was not familiar with the pricing for this award at the time. The agent mentioned she would need to check with the head office before getting back to me via phone call.

I also posted the other award flight options to French Polynesia (Hawaiian, Air New Zealand, LAN), by using sign up bonuses from the Chase Ultimate Reward promotions (Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, Chase Ink Bold, Chase Ink Plus).

Initial Exchange With Agent

Below is the exchange I had with the Korean Air agent when I tried to book the USA to Tahiti flight using SkyPass miles.

Me: I’d like to book a business class ticket on a SkyPass partner airline Air France from USA to Tahiti. The departure airport is LAX and the arrival airport is PPT.

Agent: Ok, Let me look. That will be 165,000 SkyPass miles for USA to South Pacific

Me: But your website says 90,000 miles for the AF Flight from USA to Tahiti. I’d like to use that mileage amount, can you check again?

Agent: Ok, where did you see that?

Me: On your website under partner airline awards, note #1

Agent: Ok, I see that. Sir, the airport code PPT is in French Polynesia not Tahiti

Me: PPT is on Tahiti

Agent: Please provide me your phone number and I will call you back

Me: {I hang up and call back but get the same agent. I repeat my request}

Agent: Sir, the website clearly states that the flight is 90,000 but the system shows 165,000. Let me check with the head office and get back to you

Clarification From Agent

I received a call back today from the same SkyPass agent who mentioned she would need to check with the head office. I admit, I was surprised to see she called back. The good news is the Korean Air agents confirmed that the Business Class award ticket from the USA to Tahiti prices out at 90,000 SkyPass awards. This is great news and there are currently no reports of someone actually booking the flight.

Bottom Line

The 90,000 Business Class award option to French Polynesia is a remarkable value for Chase Ultimate reward points. In the past I’ve used 150,000 Delta Skymiles per ticket to fly from the USA to Tahiti on Air France in Business Class. By taking advantage of the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and the Chase Ink Bold (here) offers you can earn a total of 90,000 Ultimate Rewards points that can be redeemed for some great flights to French Polynesia.

    @AS

    That’s my main concern. I really wanna’ book a business-class flight to Europe, but what has me concerned is the lack of information regarding taxes and fees when booking through Korean Air.

    This is a great find. Amazing redemption option!

    I didn’t get a response from the agent on the taxes but will see what I can find out for this award ticket option.

  • Peter S said,

    I would also be interested on the taxes

  • corgs said,

    Is this for one-way or round-trip? I just called Korean Air for a quote on the same itinerary but they said the 60K miles (Economy) was only for one-way.

  • The Weekly Flyer said,

    Hi corgs – It is for round trip in Business Class. You’ll have to point them to their own website where the list the award price. Once they see that, they’ll agree to the award price. The most difficult part is to get them to “find” availability at the low level for that award price.

  • derick said,

    the Korean Air website doesnt even show PPT as a destination to choose, where would i go to look for it>?

  • The Weekly Flyer said,

    Hi Derick – You have to call Korean Air unfortunately.
