Starwood is offering a reward for guests returning to their hotels after a long period of inactivity. You can earn 2k-4k bonus points, 25% off an award up to five nights, or a $25 Amazon gift card. Reader Kathy K received this offer after a 3 month hiatus from Starwood properties. Kathy runs a travel blog from a runner’s perspective called WillRunForMiles. It is a cool way to learn about travel from a runner that has run marathons in all 50 states. Back to the SPG promotion, the details are below.

I tried to register but didn’t qualify for this promotion. Probably because I stay at SPG properties too much. Almost reminds me of the Delta status promotions but is not on the same level. I think the SPG rewarding returns promotion is a great incentive for guests to return to the program without devaluing existing member loyalty.

Bottom Line

This promotion is awesome and would help me return to SPG quicker than other hotel chains. I would definitely go with the 25% off an award certificate. Make sure to check your eligibility for this return promotion. It could be worth 16,000 points.

Comments

  1. I signed up for this this morning, but the offer was 4000spg, $50 Itunes, or 25% off redemption. It seems I had not been to an SPG property in 9 months.

  2. Hi Michael – Interesting. Seems the offer gets better the longer you stay away. I would still choose the 25% off coupon from your gifts.

Hi Cyndi – Sorry you got a rock as well.

  3. I was emailed the say offer as Michael on Friday and it’s been 10 months for me. “That’s what she said”

Probably give SPG some love before Feb 29th because of the promo.

  4. Thanks for putting this up! I got an email about it and didnt even notice! I dont have the option for an Amazon gift card though, just a $25 award certificate. They may have changed it.

  5. Got a lump of coal (aka not eligible)… Suprising since I haven’t stayed at SPG hotels for a long time. However, I have a Starwood AMEX card that produces regular point deposits into my SPG account. This acitivity might have something to do with being not eligible.

  6. Hi Wes – I see myself in a Westin in the very near future.

Hi Aarash – My pleasure. Lucky you got the email. What did you choose?

Hi Yana – I have the same SPG Amex and have stayed with them within the last two months. So I got a lump of coal / goose egg as well.

  7. TWF – I ended up going with the 25% off, because, although I have very few SPG points at the moment, I’m hoping to status match from hilton and stay there more in the future, and the 25% discount should come in handy for a few trips the wife and I have planned!

  8. Hi Aarash – Good choice. You can even use it for just one night if you don’t have enough points to max out the savings. But at least make sure it saves you what the bonus point offer was for.
