Aloft To Asia – Singapore Air Business Class Lounge - Points Miles and Martinis

I got a call from my driver that the car was waiting downstairs as I was finishing my last drink in Singapore. I closed my tab at the Fullerton Bay Lantern Rooftop Bar and Lounge, said my goodbyes and hopped into the S Class Mercedes for the 25 minute ride to the airport.

My first ever departure from the Singapore Changi International airport was on Singapore Air’s flight 608 departing just after midnight to Seoul’s Incheon International Airport. The Singapore Changi International airport as well as the Singapore Business Class lounge made quite an impression.

Airport Arrival

I was dropped off in front of the Singapore Airlines ticketing desks. The check in desk had no line and I my boarding pass was printed to Incheon. I would have to check in at the transfer desk in Incheon for my Korean Air Business Class flight back to the United States.

Once I had my boarding pass, I walked around the airport for a bit before attempting to locate the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge.

Finding The Lounge

I headed up the escalator to a long hallway where a lounge was located. I thought for sure I was heading in the right direction.

I first found the Singapore KrisFlyer Gold Lounge, but I was looking for the SilverKris international Business Class lounge so I kept walking.

Down a long hallway and around the corner I finally came to the SilverKris Lounge. This lounge has both international Business Class and International First Class side.

I stopped at the lounge’s main entrance and my boarding pass was reviewed to determine which side I was able to enter. Since I was flying in Singapore’s Business Class to Seoul Incheon, I was directed to the Business Class side of the lounge.

The Business Class lounge was huge. I did a quick lap and could only find available seating in the very back next to a small family.

So I headed to shower rooms to freshen up before my 6 hour and 25 minute flight. The shower rooms were large and had a nice tan marble. I found the shower rooms slightly hot but was happy to have one available when I arrived.

After freshing up, I checked out the food options. There were plenty of hot dish options, cold treats and wall of refrigerators stocked with drinks. I passed on pretty much everything since I was full from the snacks at the Fullerton Bay Lantern Bar and Lounge. Overall, the options were much better than the Asiana Businesss Class lounge and light years ahead of the options at the lounges I’m used to in the United States.

Before long, my flight was about to board so I headed to security. I really liked the Singapore airport’s security screening process. It is much more efficient with the security at the gate areas.

I breezed through security and was on my way to Seoul in Singapore Airlines Business Class. Once onboard, I was shocked that this flight would be completely different than my experience on SQ 15 from Seoul to Singapore.

Waiting anxiously for the next installment!

By the way, did SQ supply your car to or from the airport?

  • The Weekly Flyer said,

Hi Susan – Thanks for reading. SQ didn’t supply the car service. I reserved it separately and was pleasantly surprised when the Mercedes S Class arrived for pick up.

Can I ask, how did you book award travel on Korean air? I have Skypass miles but Korean charges hefty taxes and fees to book award travel, and so I am afraid that I might have to let the skypass miles go waste.
    Appreciate your input.

Hi Pas – I booked a paid Business Class ticket on Korean Air.

About how much was the car service to SIN airport?

I really like the Singapore Changi airport as well. It is relaxing, orderly and respectful from check-in to security to boarding. Security system is orderly, non-invasive and not rushed. Unlike the US airport where I feel just totally stressed out going thru’ the system and even worst in CDG. And I am just a cattle class infrequent traveller.
    :) Thanks for sharing!

  • The Weekly Flyer said,

Hi Perry – If I remember correctly, the service was about $75 USD.
