Bottom Line

If you are looking to maximize this promotion, consider selecting the double dip option of HHilton Points and HHilton Points instead of Points and Miles.

I selected to earn double points with Hilton stays because I value Hilton Honors points for award redemptions like our stay at the Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort and Spa. How about you, which option did you select?

If you are looking for a way to maintain Hilton Gold or even top tier Diamond status without staying in their hotels much, consider the New Citi® Hilton HHonors™ Reserve Card which offers complimentary Gold status with card membership or Diamond status after you spend $40,000 on the card in a calendar year. You’ll earn benefits like, complimentary high speed internet access, no foreign transaction fees, on property elite member benefits including upgrades to Preferred Room, bonus 1,000 Hilton HHonors® Bonus Points per stay or continental breakfast. Plus you’ll get a 25% point bonus on eligible stays. The card does come with a $95 annual fee but the status and annual free weekend night benefits more than covers that cost in my opinion.

  1. Your posts are very informative and very good. Most of this one was good as well. I was disappointed to see the credit card plug. And I picked double miles.

  2. You post is misleading.

They only double the “base” points, so switching to points+points won’t make a difference.

  3. For the record, selecting double miles and crediting to Virgin Atlantic means you net 2,000 miles per stay, which convert 1:2 to Hilton to 4,000 HHonors points (must be converted in increments of 5,000, however).

Unless you’re doing ~$400+ of spend every stay, you’re actually better off with the double VS miles converting to Hilton instead of the double points.

  4. @EC. Your math is misleading as well. The bonus only gets you 1000 more miles. So that’s 2000 more points or $200 worth of spend per stay.

Still useful to people working to qualify status on stays and hotel hopping, but not such a push over that $400 would imply.

  5. ” The bonus only gets you 1000 more miles. ”

… unless you’re doing what the blog author suggests and doing points+points.
