  1. I’m not sure if this is the right place to place this “rant”, but this promotion appears to be a prime example of my frustration, challenge, what have you, with the points/mileage business.

I am going on vacation later this month and need a car. I did some checking a located a rate of $298 for the week.

I saw this post and navigated through to find that, in order to take advantage of it, I needed to rent a much higher model vehicle than I want or need. The quoted rate came to about $560. So, while I haven’t done the math, I don’t think the points – even with the bonus – offsets the extra $260 I’d have to pay in order take advantage of this offer.

On a related note, when I looked at the United site, they were also touting a Hertz offer. But, when I tried to access that offer, I got a message saying the offer was not available for my location.

Please don’t misunderstand me. I’m just trying to figure out if I’m missing something because I seem to run into this frequently: I hear of a great deal, but I can’t use it because of limited availability, time/geography restrictions, etc. :-/
