Credit Cards That Give Back 7%-10% Points And Miles Each Year

Some credit cards give large bonuses to get into your wallet. While others try to get it in and keep it in with yearly bonus points and miles offers. You can find some of the cards that offer yearly bonus points and miles can net an additional 7% to 10% bonus points or miles based on activity.

For example, I could transfer points I earn through the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card 7% yearly Dividend or the Chase Freedom 10% yearly bonus, into British Airways to book cheap awards with must have points for a serious frequent flyer.  In addition, I recently redemeed 100,000 American Airlines miles and received a 10,000 point bonus at the end of the year, all because I had a credit card in my wallet. I’ll easily pay the $95 annual fee for the card to earn 10,000 AAdvantage miles. That works out to a $0.0095 per mile.

It all depends on personal situation and weather you see value in the yearly bonus points and miles bonus offers from keeping a credit card in your wallet. For me, it’s a simple value proposition, the value I get from keeping the following cards in my wallet outweigh the fees on the cards that have fees and I certainly see value from the cards that don’t have any fees.

Earn 10% Bonus On New Points Earned Each Year With Chase Freedom

The Chase Freedom® Visa now offer a 10% bonus each year on new cash back you’ve earned each year. To qualify for the 10% bonus, you must have a Chase Checking account and a Chase Freedom card. This is a great enhancement to a really great credit card.

But it gets better. The Chase Freedom card gives up to 5% cash back on up to $1,500 per quarter for select categories. But when you also have a Chase credit card that gives access to the Chase Ultimate Rewards program, like the Chase Ink Plus, Chase Ink Bold or Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, you can then transfer the “cash back” earned from the Chase Freedom card to into Chase points.

Big enhancements this year for the Chase Freedom card. Not only did they add a 10% bonus each year on earned cash back, but they added a home improvement store just in time for spring fever. We have a huge renovation project, which I full expect to earn 5% cash back on the entire cost of the project by using my Chase Freedom card at Lowes during the Lowes 5% cash back period.

Earn AAdvantage 10% Miles Back Each Year (up to 10,000 miles)

With The Citi® Platinum Select® / AAdvantage® Visa Signature® Card offers a 10% bonus on redeemed AAdvantage miles back each year. This benefit is maxed out at 10,000 AAdvantage miles each calendar year. The ability to earn a 10% bonus on miles redeemed was a big factor in evaluating if it was worth keeping the Citi® Platinum Select® / AAdvantage® Visa Signature® Card in my wallet.

There are reports (like this thread on Flyertalk) of large bonus offers floating around for the Citi® Platinum Select® / AAdvantage® Visa Signature® Card.

Bottom Line

Carefully evaluate your points and miles earning through credit cards against the annual fees and you may be pleasantly surprised by some of the card benefits. Even ones with no annual fee like the Chase Freedom card, comes with a new yearly 10% bonus if you have a Chase Checking account.

  1. If you are planning on keeping a card with an annual fee, it might make sense to call the cancellation line and see if they will offer you a retention bonus – thus making the annual fee lower and your bonus points cheaper.

  2. 7-10% bonus points is nice but not game changing. Another card is the Chase priority club.. useful if you “buy” points with “cash and points” trick. Brings down the cost of points to 62 cents.

  3. If you launch the Lowes website through Discover’s shopping portal, you should be able to get an extra 5% off your purchase with the Freedom card.

  4. @Owen G,
I see that discover site saying “Must link to retailer site from the ShopDiscover Web page found at Discover.com and use your Discover card for each transaction”. are you sure that we will get 5% cashback from discover if we use freedom card? seems we have to use only discover card for cashback.

  5. Your decimal place is off on the .0095. It is .95 you’re paying, or nearly 1 cent a mile.

Not a horrible deal, but you’d do better buying 10,000 AA miles via vanilla reloads for $79.
