14 Travel Trends That Will Define Travel in 2014 According to Skift - Points Miles and Martinis


Yesterday, I had the opportunity to attend Skift’s presentation on 14 Trends That Will Define Travel in 2014.

Skift is a travel news site that offers trends reports, and this is the latest report that they announced last night.

14 Travel Trends That Will Define Travel in 2014:

1) Rise of the Silent Traveler
2) Blurring of Business and Leisure Travel
3) Curation is Coming to Travel Listings
4) Visuals are New Language of Marketing in Travel
5) The Rise of Smart Design in Travel
6) Substandard Tavel Startups Abound
7) Continued Rise of Chinese Independent Traveler
8) Rise of Local in Hospitality
9) Low Cost Carriers Continue Eating the World
10) The Relaxation of Visa Regulations
11) Alternative Transportation On The Ascendant, Finally
12) Sharing Economy Turns from Disruption to Collaboration
13) Airports & Airlines Finally Delivering on Self-Serve
14) Continued Rise of Metasearch

I agree with many of these trends that they think will hit 2014. One of them being airlines and airports going more on self-service. It won’t be long until we have self-boarding where passengers will scan their own boarding passes.

Another one they mentioned is the the rise of local in hospitality. One part to this is that hotels are trying to draw in locals to their restaurants and even creating events for them.

Another part to this is that when hotels open in new cities, they try to embrace the city that they are in by having their hotel reflect the local area.

Bottom Line

    @Jon- I believe that was in reference to travelers using social media such as Twitter and Facebook during their trip.
