Delta announced today that they are adding a Medallion Status Tracker on their site, which will show you how close you are to meeting/exceeding your elite status level based on flying and on spending .

As you are aware, starting January 1, 2014 U.S.-based Medallion members will have a new requirement for earning status: Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs). We have updated on this change throughout the year and have some more information to share this morning.
Starting January 1, 2014, members will earn MQDs for Preferred and Economy Comfort seat purchases, in addition to the MQDs earned for base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges on Delta-marketed or ticketed flights. For more information about what counts and what doesn’t, see the MQDs FAQs.
We are also excited to announce the launch of a new Medallion status tracker at delta.com. The new tracker can be found in the My SkyMiles section of delta.com or on the My Delta dropdown on the Delta homepage when you are logged in. The tracker displays your MQMs and MQSs side by side and will also track your MQDs and MQD Waiver (Delta SkyMiles Credit Card Spend) progress once these new thresholds launch on January 1, 2014. Bottom Line
MQD’s kick in January 1st and they want to make sure their SkyMiles members are aware of the changes. For those who did buy Economy Comfort or Preferred Seats, those now will count toward MQD Spending.

So, what do they mean by “Complete one “picture of the plane” for Diamond Medallion?
@Santastico complete either the MQMs or MQSs to obtain Diamond.
What I really wish is that for every 5K spend you did on your Delta Amex it would add 2K to your MQD bucket until you reached 25K and then it just completes your spend for all levels.
This would track better for those people not able to reach Diamond. Then you could have a mix of MQD and Amex spend combine to accomplish the total Spend Requirement.
