American Express to Virgin America 40% Transfer Bonus - Points Miles and Martinis

Just a quick reminder that American Express is having a offering a 40% transfer bonus when transferring American Express Membership Rewards to Virgin America Elevate Points.

Virgin America awards are based on the price that the airline is selling revenue tickets for, so because they are offering fixed value redemptions when using your American Express Membership Rewards points.  This bonus is hard-coded so there is no need to register.

For a sample one-way flight in January from New York- Los Angeles, Virgin America was asking for only 5,442 elevate points.

With this promotion, you would only need 7,800 American Express points for a one-way transcon JFK-LAX flight, since the ratio with this bonus is 200 Membership Rewards Points transfers to 140 Elevate Points.

While this is a good example in my opinion, booking first class awards can be quite hefty so I would really look at Virgin America’s award rates first before transferring your American Express Membership Rewards points.

Bonus Details:

  • Get 40% more Elevate points when you transfer Membership Rewards® points to your Virgin America Elevate account by 1/31/2014. Terms apply.

Interesting. Are they allowed to book SQ F and C transpac? VX charges 130k for F and 95k for C R/T with the bonus this could be very nice.

Thanks for this! Found a transcon for 6,000 points one way – can’t beat :)
