Delta has summer nonstop flights from New York JFK to three classic northeast holiday destinations:

Delta NYC Summer Northeast Nonstops

Martha’s Vineyard (MVY):

  • JFK: twice daily to 9/3
  • JFK: five weekly 9/4-30
  • LGA: twice on Saturday, once on Sunday to 9/2
  • Alternate airline: JetBlue from JFK

Nantucket (ACK):

  • JFK: twice daily to 9/3
  • JFK: five weekly 9/4-30
  • LGA: once on Saturday to 8/31
  • Alternate airline: JetBlue from JFK, United from EWR

Prince Edward Island (YYG):

  • JFK: daily 7/1 to 9/3
  • No other NYC nonstop

Prices vary widely, as low as $128 roundtrip mid-week to $500+ for prime weekend times. Award availability follows a similar pattern, better in August than July.

The Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket departures cluster around 8 am and 1 pm, with corresponding returns. Not my favorite for minimizing time away from work, though perhaps more family-friendly. Prince Edward Island is ideal for a weekend without burning vacation time, departing JFK at 5:55 pm and landing back in JFK at 8:25 am.

Prince Edward Island is consistently better award availability and a destination my wife and I love, returning soon. Anne of Green Gables country. See my posts on scenic drives, church lobster suppers, and the best B&B in PEI. It is a quiet, spread out place, even in high-season. A 2011 PEI Tourism subsidy of up to $500 for those who booked the Delta nonstop only found 10 takers. Give it a try, between the scenery and bottomless mussels, you’ll love it.

We loved Prince Edward Island. Of course, it was pouring rain and foggy for our drive through Nova Scotia, so the sunshine in PEI was well worth it. Too bad about the $500 subsidy. If I had know about it, I probably would have found a way to take advantage of it, even living in Florida. On my list is still Gros Morne National Park in Newfoundland. So far, I have not been able to get my family too interested in it, even though we only have a couple of provinces left. You might want to put New Brunswick on… Read more »

@Katherine – thanks for the all the tips because we are planning a Nova Scotia weekend, and now that I am flying UA and not worried about all the award fees in my 1K challenge, I can also do last minute weekends to Newfoundland (St. John’s) and New Brunswick (Moncton).
