Those of you who have been around for a while know that I have a seven year old Ogio suitcase that has gone all over the world with me. I have loved it, but the hard use has taken its toll, and it is time to find a replacement. There are so many great brands out there, and business travelers have a lot to consider when choosing a carry-on. After much research, I settled on the Victorinox Werks Traveler 20 inch rollaboard. Here are my thoughts.
Size and weight. My first impression of this suitcase is that it is super light. Like, way way lighter than my old bag. Once I looked at the specs, I realized that was true—it is only 7.1 lbs. It is also an inch smaller-20” long vs. 21”. It easily fits in the overhead bins.
Interior. The pockets are great. The front has two pockets, one of which is big enough for a laptop. The inside has a special folding section for suits or other hanging clothes, with a clever foam bar to reduce wrinkles and creases. There’s also a smaller inside pocket that I use for jewelry.
Capacity. Even though it is lighter and smaller, the space inside is larger with a capacity of 2319 cubic inches. I don’t know exactly what my old suitcase’s capacity was, but I can fit far more into the Victorinox than I ever could into my Ogio. It’s so roomy that packing for work trips hasn’t been a challenge at all. However, on a recent weekend vacation I was able to pack three days’ worth of clothes for the Home Warrior, the Mini Warrior, and me, plus all of our toiletries (and the Mini’s diapers), and still have room to spare. Now that’s a suitcase!
Handling. This suitcase handles better than any I’ve ever used. While I didn’t end up going for the spinners, the handle is incredibly comfortable, and long enough for tall people.
Bonus. There are a few features that people seem to love but I haven’t used yet. First, there is a strap that you can use to attach a smaller bag. It’s a great idea, but because my Lo and Sons purse slips onto the handle I haven’t used it yet. Also, it’s only 20 inches long so it should fit into most international airlines’ overhead bins. Finally, Victorinox offers one of the best warranties in the industry. While I haven’t had to use it yet, it’s a great comfort to know it’s there.
I got my bag on sale, so I made a few concessions that I wouldn’t have made if price were no object. As I mentioned previously, even though it is incredibly maneuverable, this bag doesn’t have spinners. There is a version of this suitcase with spinners, although that one wasn’t on sale so I didn’t get it (hah!). Also, the WT 24 has a pretty plum color available, which I would have loved. However, those are super picky things. Overall I am thrilled with my new bag, and would highly recommend it to anyone!

I have this bag and I love it. United tried to destroy my suitcase by running over it with a cart. I took the suitcase to a local luggage store. They shipped it back the Victoronix and I received a brand new suitcase in one week. I may buy another bag through ebags today.
I have an awesome samsonite (style discontinued) that I have packed almost 2 weeks worth of stuff in. It’s pushing the boundaries for a carry-on and it’s heavy but served me well. After 8 years, the material finally started showing some wear around the edges so I just got a Victorinox Avolve 2.0 22″ with spinners. It has a lot of the same features as yours, but no suiter and different handle. It also seems smaller than the Samsonite, despite having similar dimensions on paper, which had a deeper lid instead of a deeper main compartment. Trying it on a short vacation first, then a week work trip after that.
Does your Lo & Sons stay on the handle well? Mine keeps slipping off since the handle isn’t very wide.
I have the Lo and Sons OMG bag and have started putting the strap around the handle of the suitcase, and letting the OMG bag “ride on front” of the Victorinox carry-on. Sometimes I put it over the handle and use the back zippers of the OMG bag to secure the fit, it sometimes works; the attach-a-bag strap works well. Overall, the bag feels lighter to pull when the laptop tote is hanging lower in front. See the link for details.
I love the Victorinox WT 20 bag! I travel weekly for work Monday – Thursday and this fits it all! A suit, running shoes, pumps, large toiletry bag, 4 blouses, skirt, blazer, house shoes/flip flops, 2 workout shirts, 1 workout pant, and undergarments. I keep feminine products and house keys in the upper outside pocket. There is still room to spare, will keep this bag forever!
