A Great Christmas Present

So we just received an email from MAJ Brian (last name held per his request), as follows:

“Wanted to thank you for your posts about American Express’s unique support for SCRA. I called AMEX last month (Nov ’13) and applied to have my account associated with the program. Last week I received $2500 in returned fees (annual fees, interest charges, etc…), all paid to AMEX over the last 10 years as a Delta AMEX card member. Today I just applied for the AMEX Blue Preferred Card and according to customer service, the annual fee is waived.

Including a little background as a 10+ year AMEX card member paying annual fees for the Delta Platinum card, foreign transaction fees due to 6+ years of deployments and overseas TDY, interest payments a few times when I didn’t pay in full, and even a few late payments, might help explain with the amount was so high.

I actually stopped using the Delta Platinum Card when I took over my current job and signed up for the Amex Blue Cash Card. With annual fees waved, I immediately jumped on the Blue Cash Preferred Card. If/when I start traveling again for work, looking forward to signing up for the Amex Platinum Card and ALL the benefits.

Thank you again for sharing and for the support you’ve provided to all Servicemen.”

$2500 – that’s a hell of a Christmas bonus! Thanks for the email MAJ!

BTW – Amex’s support of the SCRA is not unique – Chase offers it, and Capitalone does too (in an upcoming post!)

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!

  1. @Jim – Agreed! I figure after 4-5 years of having my Amex plat, Rewards Gold, SPG, and Blue Cash Preferred, I’ll have save 2.5k as well!

  2. Well, seeing that they specifically reference this as an SCRA issue, I would say benefits don’t extend to veterans. The SCRA is a federal law that only applies to those on active duty.

  3. Very glad to see this! I haven’t been active duty for a number of years, but this reinforces my already high image of Amex. Very classy on their part!
