- The most crushing thing in all of travel must be running to make a connection and seeing other passengers clear the upgrade list into your seats. I hadn’t realized the US Airways mobile app upgrade list doesn’t just show who cleared, but into which seats, too.
- The Wright Amendment goes away one year from today. Southwest will be able to fly to whichever states they wish from Dallas Love Field. Airport capacity is controlled under the new legal regime so they’ll be protected from competition. One form of cronyism replaces another, and Southwest isn’t the spunky upstart fighting the man anymore!
- There’s really no downside to JetBlue’s new family mileage pooling.
While several foreign carriers have something similar, Gary Leff, co-founder of the Milepoint.com frequent-flier community, says that it’s far more common for hotel chains to offer a point-sharing option like JetBlue’s.
For JetBlue passengers, “really there aren’t any downsides,” Leff says. “It makes reaching enough points for an award easier. It also makes it worthwhile for the family member who never flies to collect points, since those who do can spend them.

One thing about rushing to make a connection:
I believe that if once you check a bag, you are considered a sure passenger on that flight. Otherwise, they will have to actually go and find your bag to get it off of the plane (in case you are a terrorist) before the flight can leave. So that could be a good way to ensure your seat on the flight – check a bag at the curb as soon as you get to it.
@Jess they no longer do positive bag matching on domestic flights because baggage now gets screened, so you can definitely fly separately from your bags.
