Would You Fly HERE?

I wouldn’t want to land here – I am not sure I would trust air traffic, or the ground controllers for that matter.

  1. quite a stupid post to be honest, and personally offensive since that is an spanish air base, so yep quite safe to land here…

  2. Not sure of the airport situation, but there is another town so named in Northern Mongolia that didn’t instill much confidence either!

  3. Ha! I was actually there a few weeks ago! I flew into MAD so I can’t comment on the landing experience directly, but the base did lose power multiple times during my short stay. The whole place went dark so I can’t imagine it was fun for any pilots trying to land.

  4. Long time reader here. I’m a civilian who has been stationed in Rota and travel to Moron for work. Sweet.

  5. I frankly couldn’t figure out the point. Since I know Spanish, I automatically processed the name as “Morón”, accent on the second syllable. Many times people omit writing out the accent mark on capital letters, though technically they shouldn’t. Only upon reading the comments, did I get it that a monolingual English speaker evidently thinks that a particular combination of letters means the same thing in other countries that it does in English, and evidently found the name funny. I don’t find the post offensive, just rather pointless.

  6. This type of ignorant post would still be ignorant if some native English speaking town renamed itself this in the recent past.

  7. As a longtime reader of your comments, Gary, I find this both personally offensive and downright insensitive on your part. As the father of a child with special needs, it is comments such as these that perpetuate ignorant behavior. As someone that has many followers via email, Twitter, FB, and other media, you should be as ashamed of this post as I and many others apparently are….remove it and offer an apology.

  8. @Garyst16 Thanks for your comment and concern. I am not sure I understand what this has to do with a special needs child. I know perfectly well that this refers to a Spanish air force base. Taken out of context, the name of the base — obviously mispronounced — amused me momentarily. I have a quirky sense of humor I suppose.

  9. Because, Gary, you posted this with the intent of most mispronouncing the name in the English version. Let’s not play coy….

  10. Too much eggnog over the holidays? I also found this post a bit… moronic? Not offensive, just a bit silly. Which I supppose was your point.

  11. @Garyst16 – The content of the post isn’t even in the same universe of references to special needs children.

    Relax.

  12. I found the post entertaining interesting and witty regardless of how one translates
Nothing insulting about it at all
Unless you want to try and find something offensive about it
    Never new the destination existed
Thanks for sharing and have a stiff Eggnogg all 🙂
