Hilton has launched their new “Weekend Rewards” promotion.
The U.S. Olympic Team spends weeks on the road training with the Olympic stage as their reward. As a business traveler, your time on the road away from home should be rewarded too.
This is a promotion that’s either for the non-business traveler, or business travel is now defined as weekend travel. Because of the Olympics. Or something.
Hilton is offering:
- 1000 bonus points per night, plus
- 5000 points for every weekend stay of two nights or more.
While the offer page says you have to both “book and stay” between February 1 and April 30 to earn the bonus, the rules actually clarify you just need to register and stay between those dates. No need to actually cancel and rebook stays on February 1 to ensure your reservations will count.
Weekend nights are defined as Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. You have to have two of those in a row in order to earn the 5000 bonus points on top of 1000 points per night. (A Sunday night check-in / Friday check-out won’t count.)
There’s also a list of ~ 350 hotels not offering the bonus.

Okay, I’m still confused.
If you register you get an extra 1,000 miles for EVERY night you stay at Hilton between Feb 1 and April 30 OR only for the nights that are defined as Eligible for the promo, e.g. Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays? Even after reading the T&C’s I’d say it isn’t clear.
Also, just the obvious comment… with Hyatt I can earn 5,000 points for 5 nights stay and those points are worth about 2 cents each. With Hilton, except for weekend nights when most business travelers won’t be hitting hotels, I can earn 1,000 points per night but those points are only worth about .4 cents, about 1/5th of the earnings rate of Hyatt. Also, the Hyatt Bonus maxes out at 50,000 points (about $1000) while Hilton maxes out at 9,000 points (about $36).
