Not a brilliant day for flying in Asia. Yesterday, state-owned Nepal Airlines Corporation only domestic aircraft, a Twin Otter, was grounded following a right engine failure. The fault was detected soon after takeoff from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. The Captain shut down the right engine and used the left one to land the aircraft back at TIA. All 15 passengers, including two infants and one child, and three crew members were safe.
This morning (local time) a Malaysian 777 vanished en route from Kuala Lumut to Beijing.
This afternoon, an Air Indigo Airbus 320 flying Flight 6E 031 from New Delhi to Kathmandu caught fire after landing. The incident occurred in one of the back wheels of the Air Indigo Airbus 320, according to Avenues Television. There were 175 Passengers, an infant and six crew member on board the the 180 seat plane. They were evacuated by slide-chutes as the fire was brought under control. All on board are reported safe.
The Indian Civil Aviation Authority said it will release a statement after holding an emergency meeting. Indigo will be sending another aircraft to fly its passengers booked on the Kathmandu-Delhi flight. ndigo is India’s largest airline by market share. It is an A320 airline flying 77 of them. They have 187 more on order.
