Walt Disney World Character Breakfast Guide & Review

On our recent trip to Walt Disney World, we wanted our 4 year old son to see as many characters as possible. That can be a very time consuming task. With long lines at meet and greets, and only a few offering Lightning Lane options, we turned to character breakfasts as a convenient way to meet multiple characters while enjoying a sit-down meal. In this guide, we’ll delve into our experiences at four different character breakfasts and provide insights to help you plan your own magical breakfast adventures.
Character breakfasts give you the opportunity to have a quality sit down meal while interacting with several characters, all of which will visit your table separately during your visit. There are set characters and themes at the numerous options available throughout the parks and resorts. Each place offers its own unique flavor of Disney magic.
I wanted to try as many as we could fit into our schedule, while giving my son a variety of characters and princesses to visit. I made reservations well in advance on the Disney app, as I wanted very specific days. I booked them all 60 days in advance, which was necessary for some, but not for all.
Akershus Royal Banquet Hall Character Breakfast
Located in the Norway Pavilion in Epcot, this recently re-opened restaurant offers a regal dining experience with several Disney princesses. My son was in love with all of them almost instantly! He met Ariel, Aurora, Tiana, Snow White, and Belle. Dressed in formal gowns, they were all very sweet and personable. The princess promenade through the castle hall added an enchanting touch.
The family style meal cost $53 per adult, $39 for kids under 10. It included Mickey Waffles, potato casserole, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, mixed fruits and pastries. It took us about 45 minutes to eat and meet all the princesses. One of the big pluses of this breakfast is that princesses can all speak and interact with you, since there are no masked characters.
Ohana Character Breakfast
Located at the Polynesian Resort, this is one of the tougher reservations to get. The restaurant was larger than Akershus. The unique allure here is the opportunity to meet Lilo and Stitch, with Mickey and Pluto also available. It overlooks the Polynesian, which offers a beautiful view.
The family style meal cost $45 per adult, $29 for kids under 10. It included Mickey Waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage, Hawaiian ham with pineapple compote, island-style potatoes, mixed fruit and biscuits. Pog juice and pineapple coconut bread is also served, both of which were big favorites of mine. It took us about an hour to eat and meet the characters. I would say the food here was my favorite of all the places we visited.
Chef Mickey’s Character Breakfast
Located at the Contemporary Resort, this tends to be one of the most popular character breakfasts. You get to meet Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Pluto, and Goofy. They were all dressed in chef/restaurant attire. During our visit, Minnie was available at the end of the meal. You wait in line to meet her for a meet and greet on the way out of the restaurant, while the others came to visit while you ate.
The buffet meal cost $51 per adult, $33 for kids under 10. The buffet offered biscuits, sausage, corned beef hash, eggs, frittatas, mixed fruit and pastries, Mickey waffles, french toast, carved ham and brisket, and an assortment of charcuterie and cheeses. Pog juice was served, which made me happy. I prefer buffets instead of family style meals. I like to take what I want, and not leave anything to waste. While I liked most things on the family style meals, there was always at least one thing that went to waste. It also took around an hour to eat here. The restaurant was much more spread out than the other two places, so it took the characters a bit longer to circulate.
Tusker House Character Breakfast
Located in the Africa section of Animal Kingdom, Tusker House impressed with its safari-themed setting. Characters here are Mickey, Donald, Daisy, and Goofy. They are all dressed in explorer and safari attire.
The buffet meal cost $45 per adult, $29 for kids under 10. The buffet offered Mickey and Simba waffles, mixed fruits and pastries, breakfast potatoes, overnight oats and yogurt, bacon, sausage, ham, and breakfast potatoes. Pog juice was served, which again made me happy. I would say this was my least favorite of the food offerings. Not to say it was bad, just not my favorite.
We missed one of the characters while at the buffet. At each place, a cast member will ask if you met all the characters towards the end of your meal. Since we missed Donald, they were able to pull him aside to meet us as we were on our way out. They really do a great job to make sure you get to meet everyone.
Walt Disney World Character Breakfast Guide & Review – Bottom Line
Visiting all four character breakfasts enhanced our Disney experience. Akershus and Tusker House provided a relaxing break from park activities, while Chef Mickey’s and Ohana were perfect ways to spend an off-day from the parks. All of the food offerings were very solid, featuring something for even the pickiest of eaters.
Going forward, I would definitely return to Chef Mickey’s, and possibly Akershus, depending on whether my son wanted to meet the princesses again. While Ohana and Tusker House were perfectly satisfactory, they didn’t stand out as much for me personally.
The true value of character breakfasts lies in the opportunity to meet numerous characters without spending excessive time in park lines. These breakfasts allowed us to enjoy other attractions and experiences on our itinerary. If you have little ones, I highly recommend considering a character breakfast to add an extra sprinkle of magic to your Disney adventure.
