During the course of my normal daily life, I do not have much cause to use laundry or dry cleaning services. We have a washer and dryer in our house (actually two washers and two dryers) and normally take care of our own laundry on our own. Even when we travel, we often either are not gone long enough to do laundry or use the laundry facilities in the hotel or Airbnb where we’re staying. But on a recent trip to London, we decided to try out Laundryheap. This Laundryheap review will go through the Laundryheap cost, experience and how Laundryheap works.
Laundryheap Review – Trip To London
My wife and I and two of our kids took a recent trip to Europe where we stayed a few days in London and then took the Eurostar train before spending a few days in Paris as well. We brought enough clothes for a few days and decided we would do laundry at the end of our time in London before our trip to France.
I had never heard of Laundryheap before, but they are in various cities in the United States as well as countries in Europe, the Middle East and even Singapore.
Laundryheap Cost and Laundryheap Coupons
We were staying at the Holiday Inn Express London Hammersmith, which did not have laundry machines or laundry service as one of its amenities. So as part of our exploring London, we did check to see if there was a laundromat nearby that we could use. We found one that was a short walk from our hotel, but it was still fairly expensive and a bit sketchy looking and, of course, you would then have to sit in a sketchy laundromat for a few hours. They also didn’t take credit cards so that would have been another (minor) inconvenience.
So then we started looking at laundry services and came across Laundryheap. Laundryheap is a service that will pick up your laundry from your home or hotel, wash it and dry it and then return it.
Laundryheap has a variety of services, though for simple washing and drying, it was £17.95 for up to 6 pounds of laundry, though there is a £20 minimum order. There are sometimes Laundryheap coupons, though if you sign up through my Laundryheap coupon link, you can get £5 or 5 Euros off your first order.
We were charged £24.95 for our original order plus tip but then got a credit for £3.95 afterwards, so our total cost for 1 load of about 6 pounds was £21 or around USD$27. That was a bit more expensive than if we had gone to a local laundromat but given that it came with free pickup and delivery and we didn’t have to deal with sitting around in a laundromat for a few hours, it was worth it.
How Does Laundryheap Work?
If you are wondering how Laundryheap works, I am pleased to tell you that the process was quite simple. You download the Laundryheap app and then schedule a pickup. Laundryheap seems to be at least partially targeted towards travelers as they have hotels pre-listed in their addresses. We put in our hotel (Holiday Inn Express London Hammersmith) and scheduled a 4 hour pickup window. The front desk at our hotel was quite familiar with Laundryheap and they gave us a plastic bag that we could use to put in our clothes. Laundryheap does return your clothes in their own branded plastic bag that you can use for future orders as well.
We put in our clothes and then put our name and hotel room number on the bag and left it with the front desk. We did not actually see the Laundryheap driver come and pick up our clothes, but we did get a notification in the app that it had happened. Laundryheap also sent a variety of different other update texts to let us know that the clothes were washed, then on our way then had been delivered. Again, we were out of the hotel when the delivery came but again, they left it with the front desk and it was no problem to pick it back up. We had been a little nervous of what would happen if Laundryheap didn’t return our clothes on time, since we were literally leaving the country the next day, but it all worked out. On their website, Laundryheap says that they return 98.7% of their clothes within 24 hours.
The Bottom Line – Laundryheap Customer Review
Our family used Laundryheap for the first time on a recent trip to London and were quite happy. There was a slight premium over doing your laundry in a self-service washer and dryer (if your hotel has them) or in a laundromat, but certainly less than hotels that want to charge $6 to wash your underwear.
