Woman Gets On Cruise In Tampa. Then She Realizes The People Getting Off Had A ‘Lifestyle Cruise’: ‘WHO Sanitized That Ship?!’

Cruises are seductive for the ease of travel, rest, and play that they offer. But what happens when words like “play” and “playroom” take on a more adult meaning?

Kassidy Cruise & Travel (@kj.cruisin) discovered that all cruises are not the same. She boarded her cruise and found out “that the people who just got off the ship were doing a ‘lifestyle cruise.’”

“If you’ve never heard of one,” she says with obvious glee, “strap in. Because we asked around and found out what it was.”

Standing in her room in a bathrobe and drinking coffee, Kassidy explains, “It’s a 21-plus cruise, for only couples. Where clothing is optional.”

But it is not just nudity and tanning. According to Kassidy, “They have playrooms and special seminars to learn how to do certain things as a couple.”

What is an adult playroom? “Think mattresses,” she says. “Lots of mattresses.”

What Do People Think About Lifestyle Cruises?

Everyone has a reaction. Some recommended adults-only cruises. Others wondered things like “WHO sanitized that ship?!”

Another user, Rory, Zeus, Neptune & Cooper, agreed, “Seriously, I wouldn’t touch anything, ever.”

To which Kassidy replied, “I tried SO hard not to think about it on my sailing.”

While Witchy Pirate wasn’t too concerned with anything other than the seating. “Carry a towel everywhere you go to sit down,” she quipped.

However, one user pushed back in the squeamish cleanliness discourse. TrueNorthTryHard said, “Past lifestyle group moderator here (house parties, not cruises). It’s less gross than you’d expect. Lifestyle folks are accustomed to rules and respect for shared spaces. I’d rather clean up after a lifestyle party than a college party.”

But others, like Vic still take issue with the idea of a “communal mattress space [sobbing emoji].”

Is “Lifestyle” Code For Group Play?

So is “lifestyle,” aka clothing optional, code for people being intimate in a group setting? “No.”

That’s largely because those engaging in the nudist lifestyle are overwhelmingly not centering it on intimacy. It’s not the same as what’s known as a “play party.” And like everything in life, there are rules and etiquette.

Because Kassidy specifically used the term “playrooms,” and due to the age limit, it’s a safe assumption that the lifestyle cruise she was exposed to was designed to allow for partner swapping and sharing. Less “family nudist” and more “spicy swingers,” or what’s known today as “ethical non-monogamy.” LAD Bible describes the lifestyle as “a relationship structure where all partners openly and consensually engage in multiple romantic or sexual situations with various different people.”

Often linked to ideas of sex-positivity, and as a possible antidote for the divorce epidemic, Dr. Tara Suwinyattichaiporn  (who practices what she preaches) says she and her husband “play” with others, but remain emotionally devoted to one another.”  She calls it “empowering to allow her husband to have fun with others.”

What are the rules? While they might vary from place to place, one of the most exclusive and chic Paris clubs that operates in this space, Les Chandelles, has several demands. There’s a dress code: no jeans, flats (presumably for women), or short-sleeve shirts. Also: consent is key. Owner Valerie Hervo says, “It’s the woman who is in command. She should not be a trophy for exhibition or body to be shared but a goddess to be honoured, adored. She should dominate, imposing her desires and whims.”

Beyond consent, many erotic spaces endeavor to use safer tools, communication, respect and discretion to make certain everyone has a good time.
