Review: The Club at Atlanta Hartfield Jackson Int’l Airport (ATL), Concourse F

…Needing an overhaul

The only priority pass lounge in the world’s busiest airport won’t win any design awards. A nice breakfast buffet and rather nice showers cannot rescue this often crowded lounge.

The summary

Located on the mezzanine level in the beautiful F concourse, which serves non-US carriers and some Delta flights, this lounge is Atlanta airport’s only lounge available to Priority Pass passengers (though there are some non-lounge options for Priority Pass holders). Coupled with the fact that some non-US carriers send their premium passengers to this lounge, this lounge can get very crowded, and there can be a line to enter.

Upon entry, the reception will verify credentials (boarding pass for a flight that departs within 3 hours, Priority Pass membership), and you enter the lounge. To the immediate left is a small sitting area, which is in my opinion the nicest part of the lounge.

Once you enter, the main buffet is to the immediate left. The buffet area is flanked some nice-looking blue and grey chairs and tables. This area is separated from the larger part of the lounge by a solid curved partition.

The buffet itself is rather decent for breakfast, with cereals, an egg dish, fruits, sausages and more. I really like how the lounge posts a menu of what’s on offer before you enter the buffet.

On the other side of the wall is the main seating area, with several traditional tables and a communal hi-top table. This is where you will find the coffee station. One thing I noticed was the lack of outlets, other than on the floor. I dislike having to plug in through floor outlets – tripping is inevitable. Across from the main seating is the bar. I actually found the bar to be rather attractive. I briefly chatted with the friendly bartender. Without asking, I did not see any sign that there was a charge for any alcoholic beverages.

As the pictures show, the lounge has rather large windows that flood the room with natural light. However, due to the location, the views are of the access roads to the international terminal and not of the tarmac.

On the far side of the room, and to the left of the bar (if looking at the bar), is a soda machine, espresso machine, and secondary food area with some baked goods and snacks. The wall behind this area has some rather nice pictures, but the wall beneath the pictures is discolored. There was also a seating area called the business center located behind the soda and espresso machine. However, since one family was asleep in this area – I declined to take pictures.

Behind the bar is where you will find washrooms and showers. The very friendly lounge attendant allowed me to take some pictures of the showers. I was pleasantly surprised: they seemed rather nice.

I did not log on to the internet during my rather quick visit. In my other visits to Club locations, internet was password protected but very fast. Despite the rather nice buffet and some friendly staff interactions, this lounge is not a place to arrive early for. I would rather hang out at one of the tables in the very nice F concourse, which reminds me of Terminal E in Dallas. However, in a pinch, if you want to grab something to eat, drink, or grab a shower, I suppose the lounge will suffice. During my morning visit, the lounge was not crowded. I have been here at other times, with lines out the door!
