Free bmi Silver status for Diamond Club sign-up

For a limited time British Midland is offering Silver status for three months to anyone that joins the Diamond Club program. You simply need to earn 4,000 status miles (which you can earn from travel on any Star carrier) during that period to qualify for the rest of the year.

    Lucky, as a non frequent traveler is it worth it for me to credit the few United flights I have to bmi for this promotion? Does it get me Econ+ or baggage on United, or is it better to hope that United does Double EQM again?
