Through June 30, American is offering up to a 35% bonus on the conversion of hotel points into AAdvantage miles. The 35% bonus only applies when convertint the equivalent of more than 20,000 miles.
For example, Starwood is one of the transfer partners, and 40,000 Starwood points would convert into 67,500 American miles. That’s because you get a 5,000 mile bonus for every 20,000 points you transfer, for a total of 50,000 miles, plus the 35% bonus on that.
On paper it’s not quite as good as the US Airways 50% transfer bonus, but keep in mind that all American miles earned count towards lifetime status with them. So convert 600,000 Starwood points into American miles, and you’re looking at lifetime Gold status.
And I was about to pull the trigger on a big (200,000+ point Starwood transfer). Will have to think about that twice, now….

Now I have no experience transferring points, maybe it goes faster than starwood advertises.. Or maybe it will be backdated and AA would honor the bonus. I don’t really know. Is this a potential issue?
