Alitalia is offering 2,000 bonus miles just for registering with their program by March 30, 2013. They’re offering a further 2,000 bonus miles if you have any activity with them within three months, including a Membership Rewards points transfer. Then you can get another 2,000 miles by flying with them by April 30, 2013.

Alitalia’s program can be extremely lucrative for SkyTeam redemptions, so you might as well sign up, especially if you have Membership Rewards points you might be able to combine with this balance.

Lucky, do you know if AZ has “Delta-levels” of Air France availability (just about nothing in J) or “Air France-levels” of Air France availability (wide open in J)?

@ Michael — Unfortunately same space as Delta as far as I know.

Several people in the post you linked said miles were expiring in 2012 and a new program was to launch for 2013… Is there an update there?

Also will they let you put awards on hold? The prospect of transferring to an airline that may or may not be able to see correct award space is a bit scary–particularly when you’re transferring round trip mileage!

@ Justin — Yep, the program just relaunched, so that’s partly why we’re seeing the bonus, I think.

I don’t believe they allow holds on award tickets, though I may be wrong.

lucky – do you think the other 2k welcome bonus would be granted if we merely moved 1k from AMEX into the account? that’s some sort of account activity right? or does it have to be flying activity on SKYTEAM?

    lucky said,

@ Eric — Based on my interpretation I think so.

Alitalia is a total scam and a rip-off. Not only had they changed dates of my flight twice(yes I know according to EU regulations they can do that 2weeks prior to the departure) but have I also not recieved my milemliligia(no idea how it’s spelled) card since october. Mailed them couple of times with barely any answer.
    Cheers
