Via an email I just received from Etihad Airways:

Do you have a gold or a higher tier card with another airline?

Etihad Guest is delighted to offer a complimentary Etihad Guest Gold card to members who currently hold a gold or a higher tier card with another airline loyalty programme. Simply send through the below documents and we will offer you an Etihad Guest Gold card for free*!

• Scanned copy of the gold or a higher tier card with another airline
• Scanned copy of the latest miles statement with another airline
• Etihad Guest membership number.

Make sure you send these documents to before 14 July 2013. Remember, this offer is limited to the first 500 eligible members only, so send your details now and go for gold with Etihad Guest.

You can find a full listing of Etihad Guest Gold Card status benefits here. This isn’t especially useful unless you actually fly Etihad Airways, though if you do this will get you bonus miles, lounge access, etc.

I a Delta Plat and did the match

What kind of lounge access does it get domestically and internationally?

@ Ari — It only gets you lounge access when traveling on Etihad (and they only have international flights so…).

Does Etihad consider a companion pass status with Southwest Airlines as the equivalent of a gold or a higher tier card to qualify for this match?

    lucky said,

@ Old Flyer — My guess would be no, though it can’t hurt to try.

    Hugh said,

I was briefly excited by this, then I remembered I already get (theoretical) Etihad lounge access through my gold with Virgin Australia.

On that note, though, it’s worth mentioning that this relationship is reciprocal though, so Etihad Gold members also get access to the Virgin Australia lounges when flying Virgin Australia — so that might make this status match worthwhile for some people.
