United announced a somewhat lucrative double redeemable miles promotion for MileagePlus members today. The promotion is valid for travel purchased and flown between October 21 and November 21, 2013. It’s only valid for travel marketed and operated by United or United Express in the lower 48. The other major restriction is that a minimum of an “S” fare has to be purchased to qualify, meaning eligible fare classes include F, A, J, C, D, Z, P, Y, B, M, E, U, H, Q, V, W and S.

Registration is required prior to travel, and bonus miles should post 6-8 weeks after the end of the promotion.

This promotion probably won’t be especially useful to most, given the requirement that tickets be purchased on or after October 21, and the minimum fare requirement of an “S” fare, which can be rather expensive on domestic itineraries. Last minute business travelers will probably benefit most from this promotion.

This more or less matches Southwest’s promotion through November 21, which also offers double Rapid Rewards points.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see American match as well…

A match, other than the part where the Southwest promo is valid on all fares and this is decidedly not. ;)

AA 25,000 bonus miles per business class round trip to Europe (also huge bonuses for coach) blows away UA promotion. Can’t believe UA and DL didn’t match that one. AA getting a lot of my business that would have gone elsewhere.
