Hotel Review: Four Points by Sheraton Auckland (Suite) - Affordable and Centrally-located Hotel on Upper Queen Street
Auckland in New Zealand has seen several new hotel openings over the last couple of years and even though I visit the city a handful of times each year, I find myself returning to the Four Points by Sheraton Auckland a lot. Obviously, the property’s hard product cannot quite compete with new luxury properties like the Park Hyatt Auckland or probably the new InterContinental Auckland on Commercial Bay but the Four Points by Sheraton Auckland is quite possibly one of the best Four Points branded properties I have ever stayed at.

Living Room
Suite - Four Points by Sheraton Auckland
The Four Points by Sheraton Auckland is located on Queen Street which is in the CBD - a car ride from Auckland Airport to the hotel should take you slightly under 30 minutes and it should not cost more than NZD 60 on Uber (which is what I typically rely on for traveling around while in New Zealand). Elite recognition as a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite member has always been decent - I have once gotten an upgrade into a Studio (which came with a nice balcony) but on most stays, I typically get upgraded into a Corner Room with a view of the Sky Tower. On my latest visit to Auckland, I noticed that the suite was available for the whole duration of my stay (11 nights) and I decided to try my luck at requesting for it via the Mobile Chat and it was successful.
Living Room
Suite - Four Points by Sheraton Auckland
The suite at the Four Points by Sheraton Auckland measures 50sqm in size and they are located on Levels 19 and 20 of the hotel - some of these suites come with an outdoor balcony but mine did not. All of the suites at the Four Points by Sheraton Auckland also come with a separate living and dining area, as well as a small kitchenette which may be valuable for families but since I was traveling for work, I was appreciative of the additional space to work from during the day. The living area comes with a two-seater sofa, and a TV, as well as a small dining area which is perfect for takeaway dinners.
Welcome Amenity
Suite - Four Points by Sheraton Auckland
I received some sweet treats as a welcome amenity as a Titanium Elite member and while I did not end up eating them, they did look pretty good. There was also a signed card welcoming me back to the property which was a nice touch. In my experience, there are no real tangible differences in benefit that a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite and Titanium Elite member receive during a stay. On paper, Titanium Elite members should be upgraded more but I personally have the worst luck with suite upgrades and I generally avoid having that awkward conversation of having to demand for one at check-in. Platinum Elite and higher members may opt for complimentary breakfast for the whole duration of their stay as a welcome amenity option - that was what I went with since I was staying for 11 nights and the property has also graciously extended the breakfast benefit to my second room.
Living Room
Suite - Four Points by Sheraton Auckland
The living room is quite nice and it probably takes up half the size of the entire suite, making it a large enough area to lounge in and to get some work done during the day. The WiFi at the Four Points by Sheraton Auckland works perfectly without any issues and complimentary access is included for all in-house guests.

Suite - Four Points by Sheraton Auckland
The suite that I was assigned to at the Four Points by Sheraton Auckland came with a nice view of the Sky Tower which used to be the tallest freestanding structure in the Southern Hemisphere but it has been surpassed by the Autograph Tower in Jakarta since 2023. Even though the Four Points by Sheraton Auckland is located on Queen Street on paper, it is located on Upper Queen Street which means it will take you approximately 15 minutes to get to the Downtown Terminal or where Commercial Bay is. With that being said, the location might be an advantage or disadvantage for you - I personally prefer staying around Upper Queen Street more since it is nearer to restuarants that I like, as well as a spin studio that I frequent.

Suite - Four Points by Sheraton Auckland
The Sky Tower is quite possibly the most photographed structure in the whole of Auckland CBD and it looks fantastic especially in the evening. There are quite a number of Asian eateries around the Four Points by Sheraton Auckland and you should be able to get most of what you need from the Countdown (supermarket) or Chemist Warehouse nearby. If you are after fancier restaurants, you will have to take a stroll down towards the harbour as most of the nicer restaurants in the Auckland CBD are located there.
Kitchenette
Suite - Four Points by Sheraton Auckland
As mentioned earlier, all of the suites at the Four Points by Sheraton Auckland come with a kitchenette - the suite that I stayed in also came with a full-size refrigerator with a freezer (perfect for storing ice cream in the summer!). There is also a dishwasher here which I thought was an interesting touch since housekeeping comes in to do the dishes every day anyway - I would have preferred a laundry machine but that’s just me and my workout outfits talking.
Complimentary teabags and freeze-dried coffee are provided in the room but a good coffee is only a stone’s throw away from the hotel. If you are too lazy to head out, Queen's Head Bar & Eatery (which is the hotel’s all-day dining venue) serves up good coffee for a decent price (approximately NZD 5-6 for a cup if I recall correctly). The suite at the Four Points by Sheraton Auckland comes with actual cutlery that you can utilise - this was especially useful for me since I tend to takeaway dinner back to my room while on work trips. There is also a microwave here which is perfect for heating up leftovers since the portions in New Zealand are significantly larger than what we get back in Singapore.
Bedroom
Suite - Four Points by Sheraton Auckland
The bedroom of the suite at Four Points by Sheraton Auckland can be partitioned off completely from the living room by closing the sliding door. The bedroom does not come with any bells and whistles but since my suite was located in the corner, it was really quiet and I got really good sleep throughout my stay.
Power Outlets and USB Charging Port
Suite - Four Points by Sheraton Auckland
Most, if not all of the hotels that I have stayed in in Australia and New Zealand do not come with universal power outlets - this means that you will have to travel with a universal power adapter which makes it slightly less convenient. It might be a good idea to invest in a GaN-Charger since that will likely be sufficient enough to juice up all your devices (including your laptop!). Fortunately, the Four Points by Sheraton Auckland has plenty of USB-A ports scattered around the bedroom which makes it easy for international travellers with older devices.
Work Desk in Bedroom
Suite - Four Points by Sheraton Auckland
There is a small work desk located in the bedroom of my suite and while the size of the table was sufficient for me, I did find the chair to be relatively uncomfortable to sit on for a long duration. Fortunately for me, I had the option of working from the living room which was a lot more conducive. You will find power outlets and USB charging ports by the work desk which makes it convenient to keep your devices charged.
Bedroom
Suite - Four Points by Sheraton Auckland
There is another TV located in the bedroom, just above the work desk for those wanting to watch local or satellite channels. Unfortunately, you are unable to stream mobile content to the TV easily but I think most of us are used to consuming content from our devices anyway. While the suite offers quite a lot of living space, actual wardrobe space is quite limited (especially if you plan on hanging all your outfits up).
Bathroom

Most of the rooms and suites at the Four Points by Sheraton Auckland do not come with a bathtub but as far as I know, there are a handful of Corner Rooms that have one - I have been lucky enough to be upgraded to some of these rooms over the years but you might have to request for it ahead of time. Obviously, requests like that are subject to availability but there is no harm in asking whether they are available for the duration of your stay - there is nothing more comforting that enjoying a warm soak in the tub in the winter.
Bathroom

Even though my suite did not come with a bathtub, the shower area was decent with great water pressure - there is also a rainshower head if that is something you prefer. Some basic personal hygiene amenities (e.g. cotton buds) are provided in the drawer underneath the sink but if you require anything else, you may request them from housekeeping or via the app.
Bath Amenities
Suite - Four Points by Sheraton Auckland
Bath amenities at the Four Points by Sheraton Auckland are provided by ACTIV Body Care which is consistent with brand standards. The shampoo bottle was missing in my suite but a quick message to the front desk via the Mobile Chat rectified this problem quickly - perhaps it was empty and the housekeeping team had forgotten to replace it after removing the old bottle. I do not particularly enjoy the scent from this range of products (since it smells like a deodorant spray from Lynx) but I guess it gets the job done if you are an easy traveller.
Breakfast at the Four Points by Sheraton Auckland is of decent quality and even though the spread does not change much daily, omelettes are typically done well, and barista-style coffee (available at a nominal charge for all guests, regardless of status) is offered as well. As mentioned earlier, breakfast is complimentary for me as a Titanium Elite member but it is honestly quite reasonably priced and I would recommend getting it if you are just staying at the property for a couple of nights. The Four Points by Sheraton Auckland might not be the fanciest property in Auckland CBD but it is one that I return to all the time - housekeeping does a great (and efficient!) job, breakfast is decent, and the location of the hotel makes it easy for me to hit the gym and nearby fitness studios even on work trips.

The JW Marriott Auckland is still refurbishing its guest rooms and suites (with an expected completion date in November 2024). I stayed in a Deluxe Room (non-refurbished) and have found the experience to be lacking of a typical JW Marriott property.
