Lounge Review: Lufthansa Lounge – Newark (EWR)

…a lounge reborn and upgraded

When: October 18, 2024

Rating: 7.5/10 – Delightful

Access: Star Alliance Gold Status

Lufthansa recently reopened its lounge in Terminal B at Newark Liberty Airport. This lounge is equal to its Boston counterpart (review here), highlighted by a stylish free bar, elevated food options, very nice staff, and a refreshed design.  The lounge is the first Lufthansa lounge that’s branded with its new “Allegris” motif that’s being rolled out in the air.

The lounge is located on Pier B-3 at Newark, near gates 60-68. Upon entering you are immediately taken with the bar. It’s beautiful. The drinks are all complimentary, and the staff is very nice.  To the right is the expansive buffet with hot items (chicken, polenta, ziti, veggies), sandwiches, salad fixings (quinoa salad too), and a nice charcuterie station. It is easy to fill up here. And the desserts!!! Adjacent to the buffet is the self-serve soda station and infused water station. Next to the buffet is a variety of seating, both high top tables and restaurant style seating.

Behind the bar is a variety of lounge seating: comfortable chairs, sofa style seating and more.  There is another soft drink station and a coffee station. This is also the quieter part of the lounge. Also located in the rear of the lounge is the private dining room for first class passengers, with a la carte dining.

The entire lounge has a wonderful décor, clean lines but warm and elegant. It has a “green” wall – a feature of the Boston lounge. The staff in all aspects is among the bast I have seen. The reception staff was very welcoming (and I was flying on United!). The manager was always walking around, checking on things. The staff was always working and cleaning- even in the washrooms.

This is a small lounge: I can see it filing up in the evening. Although it is larger than the previous version of the lounge,

I rate this lounge 7.5/10. Best features: The food, bar, and staff. Flaws: Location in Terminal B requires United flyers to leave the terminal and reenter security – as terminal B connections are not as between A and C.
