Lounge Review: Star Alliance Business Class Lounge LAX

by Adam Stuart | September 2, 2024 | 0 Comments

Lives up to the hype – epitomizes LA!

When: August 2, 2023

Rating: 9/10 – Exceptional

Access: United Club, Star Alliance Gold Status

Time for a LAX Review! This lounge lives up to its reputation as one of the best business class lounges in the USA. The décor is incredible, highlighted by an outdoor deck, which is great for Los Angeles. The expansive buffet includes a ramen bar. It’s located in the Tom Bradley Int’l Terminal (TBIT)– so it’s a lengthy walk from the United gates in terminal 7/8 and the Air Canada gates in terminal 6 – so leave yourself time if you want to check it out.

The lounge is on level 6 of TBIT. After presenting your credentials, you are welcomed into the lounge (which is actually run by Air New Zealand). Note that later in the day, there may be crowds as most Star Alliance passengers with access are directed to this lounge. First class passengers have another lounge to use, which features sit-down restaurant dining. Also, note that there are no departure announcements for United or Air Canada flights. My guess is that Star Alliance would prefer domestic flyers to stick with the very nice LAX United Club or Maple Leaf Lounge – but the staff at reception were very friendly.

Immediately, behind the reception desk, you enter the lounge, which is really just one expansive room with many sections and a variety of lounge, bar and table seating. There is a quieter library like area near the entrance, and a large and darkened TV room in the back – near the entrance to the outdoor deck. The deck is undoubtedly the highlight of the lounge, especially when the fires are lit. It’s an incredible space. There is also an interior deck, which overlooks the shops (pricey!) and restaurants in the TBIT.

For drinkers, there is serve yourself liquor as well as a large bar where fancy LA cocktails can be made. The buffet is rather extensive – but the food is nothing unusual. What is unusual is that beyond the main buffet, there is a make your own ramen bar, which I have never seen before in a lounge (or anywhere I think). There are tables suitable for eating and working throughout the space, as well as comfortable lounge like seating. Electrical outlets are readily available throughout the lounge

On the way to the outdoor deck, are the restrooms and functional and stocked shower suites.

I rate this lounge 9/10. Best features: The décor, bar, ramen bar, and the outdoor deck. Flaws: The lounge can get VERY crowded and the location is not ideal for domestic flyers.
