Lounge Review: United Club, Terminal A – Newark (EWR)

by Adam Stuart | July 21, 2024 | 0 Comments

a relaxing oasis on Newark’s new terminal

When: July 10, 2024 (AM)

Rating – 7/10 – Very fine

Access – via United Club Membership

The United Club at Newark Airport, Terminal A, provides a welcome place for travelers to wait before their flight. It features United’s new lounge motif and is notable for Air Canada representatives in the lounge.

This is the smallest (but still rather large) of the three United Clubs at Newark. The other two are in Terminal C, which is solely occupied by United. United nevertheless is the largest carrier out of Terminal A. The spacious lounge reflects United’s new lounge design, which avoids the cookie cutter design of the mid-2010s in favor of a look that includes locally sourced artwork and other features unique to the location. In addition, the newer lounges have enhanced food options (albeit not as sumptuous as most sky clubs I have visited or Polaris lounges).  A unique feature of this lounge is the Air Canada representative seated in the lounge. Air Canada had a Newark Lounge in the old Term A but relinquished a club in the new terminal, allowing United to build out a club 2x its original plans. Maple Leaf Lounge members have access – and AC flies to several destinations from EWR, including Vancouver, Calgary and Halifax (as well as Toronto/Montreal)

I like the open space of this lounge – and yes terminal noise does seep into the lounge. However, it is not too intrusive

After entry, the bar and buffet are to the right. However, plenty of quiet seating to the left. I was impressed with the breakfast options – egg white and avocado burritos! The lounge is nowhere near as crowded as those in Terminal C.

There are no showers. The biggest flaw: the bathrooms are too small for the lounge. It’s interesting that you can easily look out at into the neighboring Delta Sky Club – and to be honest – I can see why they get raves – the design seems a bit more luxurious.

I rate this lounge 7/10. Best features: Large space, nice design, extensive buffet. Flaws: Washrooms are too small.
