Lounge Review: Swiss Senator Lounge D Gates – Zurich (ZRH)

…a hidden oasis with some surprises

The relatively new Swiss Lounge at the D gates in Zurich is a hidden gem at Zurich Airport. Highlights are the décor, the abundance of seating, great buffet for breakfast, the peacefulness, and the “hidden” back room.

When: March 10, 2025. Access: Star Alliance Gold. Rating: 8.5 – Awesome

From what I understand, this lounge is a combination of the former Senator and Business Lounges and was reconfigured and reopened after covid. The D gates serve medium range international flights (I think). So, passport check is required before entering the D gates if you want to access the lounge. The entrance of the lounge is rather unassuming, but once you enter you will notice all the hallmarks that make Swiss Lounges so nice. The use of wood evokes a ski lodge, and I have NEVER seen such a variety of seating: loungers, sofas, booths, high-top seating and more. There are views of the tarmac throughout. Immediately past reception there is a comfortable seating area on the right. If you look further to the right you will notice loungers/recliners.

To the left past reception, you will see the main buffet for breakfast. Items on offer were scrambled eggs, meats, smoothies, yogurt, breads and more. I had an incredible mango yogurt smoothie. Across from the food an expansive beverage station. All beverages, including alcohol, are self-serve. My only regret is that there was no live cooking station. Separated from the main buffet by a slated wood divider is booth style and high-top seats.

But there is more! Walk past the beverage station, you will enter another larger room, which has more seating, including the aforementioned sofa. I can’t imagine this room ever being crowded! But there is more! Adjacent to this “back” room is another beverage station.

Another great feature of this lounge is the outlet availability. Outlets are everywhere and have EU, UK, and US chargers, which is great surprise. There are also wireless phone chargers next to the booth seating – eliminating need for any cords. The washrooms were modern and clean. Staff this early morning were always cleaning and refilling the buffet

I rate this lounge 8.5/10. Best features: The décor, seating, buffet, outlet availability, the back room. Flaws: None – but a live cooking station and showers would knock this into the top-tier. Also – since this concourse requires a passport – it is not easily accessible as some of the other lounge options if your flight is from the A, B or E gates.
