Review: Explore United’s Reimagined Club at Newark (EWR), Terminal A

by Adam Stuart | March 26, 2025 | 0 Comments

…Urban-loft vibe at Newark Airport’s new terminal.

The United Club at Newark Airport, Terminal A, provides a welcome place for travelers to wait before their flight. It sports a refreshing urban loft style aesthetic, adorned with interesting artwork, has a variety of seating, an attractive bar, and a decent buffet during the afternoon hours.

The summary

This is the smallest of the three United Clubs in Newark: the other two are in Terminal C, which is solely occupied by United. Interestingly, the lounge is right next to the Delta Sky Club and American Admirals Club. United nevertheless is the largest carrier out of Terminal A,and this lounge is double the size of the other two because it occupies the space that was originally slated to be a Maple Leaf lounge. Air Canada decided to forego a stand-alone lounge, but Maple Leaf lounge members have access (last I checked).

After scanned entry, you arrive at the rather large general seating area. But first there is a very attractive mural -which I believe was created by a local (NJ) artist. This area is broken up into several sections, with the section on left having small booths, tables, high – top seating etc. There are also two rooms with more traditional comfortable lounge seats. On the right is a seating area that is open to and overlooks the terminal. Yes, some noise from the terminal seeps in. This lounge is NOT quiet. One big plus: outlets are everywhere! United does a great job ensuring you will be well charged.

To the right of the open seating area is an infused water station, and then your eye immediately is drawn to the attractive bar. As per usual, there is a charge for premium drinks. There is a lot of seating in the area immediately surrounding the bar. This area includes some sofa style seating with more artwork, including an interesting plane display.

Further along, you come across the buffet, drink stations (soda machine, infused waters), and the desert counter. The food at lunch was not bad: chicken marsala, cooked vegetables, rice, salad fixings, three variety of sandwiches, and soups.

The lounge was crowded. Even in terminal A, United is the largest carrier. The staff works hard to keep the lounge clean. There are no showers – travelers need to shuttle to the C123 lounge for that. The biggest flaw is the small size of the men’s washrooms. Given that this space was originally for two separate lounges, I supposed the designers decided to keep only one set of washrooms

The wrap

…The details. Date – March 10, 2025. Rating 7/10 -Very fine. Access: United Club membership

..What I like: The décor, outlet availability, attractive bar.

..What I don’t like: The buffet in the C74 club seems more substantial, the bathroom situation.
