Review: Swiss Senator Lounge, Concourse A – Zurich (ZRH)

by Adam Stuart | September 21, 2025 | 0 Comments

Swiss refinement with great food.

The last of the Swiss Senator Lounges I visited, the lounge in Zurich’s A concourse has all the hallmarks Swiss lounges: open cooking station, large buffet, professional staff, lots of wood, and lots of outlets.

The summary

The lounge is located not far from clearing security and is clearly marked by signs. The entry is shared with the Business Lounge. Star Alliance Gold passengers (regardless of travel class) are directed to the Senator Lounge. Business class passengers without gold status are directed to the Business Lounge. This is an odd quirk of the Lufthansa group (which includes Swiss) lounges.

Just past entry to the left is a small hallway where travelers can access the shower suites, which are shared with the adjacent business lounge. The main part of the lounge is up a small flight of stairs. Like all Swiss branded lounges, wood is a key and consistent design element. Unlike other Senator Lounges, this lounge has a raised ceiling and a more open/industrial aesthetic.

There is an abundance of seating types: tables suited for working or dining, sofa seating with small tables, some hi-top seating with wood stools, and more traditional wide seats. I especially loved the semi-private offices. I did not plug in or logon – but there outlets everywhere, and I noticed that US outlets (as well as EU and UK) were at most stations.

I always enjoy dining in Swiss lounges, especially the open cooking stations. The chef was making scrambled eggs, eggs over easy, or a cheese omelet if desired. The breakfast buffet was substantial – as the pictures show. There is always a large section of cheese and breakfast meats.

There is self-serve beer, wine, and hard liquor. If alcohol is not your choice, there is a soft drink and water fountain and a large coffee and tea station.

Adjacent to the main dining area are the washrooms and another shower suite (disabled travelers don’t have to go back downstairs to the other showers).

My favorite part of the lounge was the “silent” area, up one small flight of stairs. Here the color palette was darker. There were sofas, desks, and some very nice and rather private loungers.

While it lacks the manned whiskey bar in the Senator Lounge in Concourse E or the wow factor of the Alpine Lounge, this lounge remains a great lounge and perfectly complements the other Swiss Lounges in Zurich.

The wrap

The details. Date – September 21, 2025. Rating: Very awesome. Access: Star Alliance Gold on a Star Alliance Flight (United)

What I like: The upstairs silent area, the open cooking station.

What I don’t like: Crowds at times: There is nothing per se that I do not like about this lounge. I was there in the early morning. Since this lounge is the main lounge for inter-European travel from Zurich – I have seen long lines on other occasions
