Nashville, Tennessee is one of the most popular bachelorette party destinations in the country. Every year, thousands of women flock to Music City to let it all hang out on Broadway before their big day. Most have a blast.

The trip that was supposed to be one last hurrah as a singleton turned into a nightmare for one woman. It went so badly that now she’s cautioning against renting any Airbnb in Nashville and urging people to stay in hotels instead.

TikToker Micaela Rodriguez (@micaelaarodriguezzz) recently posted a video that deviated from her usual finance-orientated content. She says that after arriving at the Airbnb, she noticed a few things that made her question the group’s safety.

It turns out her fears were justified. Rodriguez says the property got broken into that night. Now she thinks it’s a common occurrence.

After calling and trying to deal with Airbnb multiple times, Rodriguez says she and her bachelorette group received no resolution regarding the money they spent or items they abandoned when they left the property. Rodriguez reflected on this in her video with over 94,000 views, adding, “ The more you think about the fact that they didn’t take anything, the more my stomach kind of starts to turn.”

They came to the conclusion that a hotel would have been safer and easier.

What Exactly Happened At The Nashville Airbnb?

On the first day that Rodriguez and her friends checked into Airbnb, they noticed a few safety issues. One of the guests in Rodriguez’s group tried to get into the Airbnb later on in the day, but the door wouldn’t budge. She tried to use the keypad multiple times without success.

While waiting outside for the host to manually unlock the door, she noticed a group of men watching. Rodriguez says, “ It’s at a house that had direct view to our front door, and they were just watching her. I mean, one specifically was sitting in his car with a ladder on top of it, just watching her while the other two were kind of like chatting with him and going inside.”

The women also noticed that doors inside the home were unlocked, leaving them open for anyone to enter the premises. A rooftop door, for instance, had been left unlocked.

Despite this, some of the members of the bachelorette group decided to go out for the evening. A few stayed in and found themselves in a frightening situation.

Sometime that evening, a masked intruder tried to get in the house.

Rodriguez recalls that she and the others who’d gone out were regrouping for their adventures on Broadway. The next moment, they got a text from their friends at the house that said, “Call the police.” They immediately contacted her and were told that someone had been aggressively shaking the doorknob outside the house.

“She heard like shaking on her doorknob, thought it was us trying to get in, and when she opened the door, she came face to face with somebody in a ski mask and gloves,” Rodriguez recalls. “He immediately runs out and it gave her enough time to lock the front door, lock her bedroom door, and then lock herself in the bathroom.”

After that, though, either one man or multiple individuals entered the home. The other guest that was inside the townhouse heard them but initially thought it was the other members of the group. Then they came to the disturbing realization that the group wasn’t supposed to be back yet. Suddenly appreciating the danger of the situation, they called out to the other person and the two fled out into the night to wait for the cops.

A Night Of Terror

When the bachelorette group that went out finally got back, they realized just how bad the situation was. Rodriguez says there were at least four or five cop cars outside, with helicopters circling above. Rodriguez theorizes that there’s more to the story that they did not know.

It wasn’t until around midnight that the group got to collect their things to stay somewhere else. They ended up checking in at a hotel nearby, spending thousands more on top of their initial costs.

Despite attempts to get their money back, Rodriguez says they’ve heard next to nothing from Airbnb on how to proceed. Rodriguez said that despite calling at all times of the day, their party has not been able to speak to someone authorized to reimburse them.

Toward the latter half of her video, Rodriguez identifies the Airbnb she says they stayed at. The listing has 4.8 stars on Airbnb’s platform, though some reviewers noted that the surrounding area was “sketchy.”

“The place is just as pictured! Super cute for a girls getaway, but the surrounding areas were a little sketchy,” one reviewer said. “Overall would recommend a stay here!”

Is Nashville Dangerous For Travelers?

When Rodriguez had a chance to speak to the police about the incident, she says they told her that “ this happens all the time, especially to Airbnbs that are like catered for or marketed to women and bachelorette groups… it’s just so predictable… what their schedule’s gonna be.”

Other commenters agreed that Nashville is a hotspot for break-ins, especially for young, vulnerable people. The city does have a higher than average crime rate, according to crimegrade.org.

In 2022, a bachelorette party had a similar experience. When they returned one night, they found a burglar inside their Airbnb. Nashville’s Metro Police said that there had been “30 calls for service at that West End Circle address since the beginning of the year.”

Reflecting on the situation, Rodriguez says she’s glad her and her friends are safe and that nothing was stolen. But, she’s warning her audience to watch out for Nashville’s Airbnbs, especially those that cater to large bachelorette groups.

A spokesperson for Airbnb told BoardingArea, “We take the safety of our community seriously, and want to support positive experiences. We’ve refunded the guest for their stay and reimbursed hotel and grocery expenses as part of our support. In the exceptionally rare event of an issue during a stay, we provide 24/7 assistance including a round-the-clock safety line.”

The spokesperson added, “The overwhelming majority of Airbnb stays occur without issue and we offer dedicated, specialized support in the rare event something doesn’t go as planned. Our Safety team can be reached via our 24 Hour Safety Line, which is available to all users during an active stay if they ever feel unsafe or need to report an urgent safety-related issue to us.”

We’ve reached out to Rodriguez via TikTok direct message and comment for more information. The Metro Police was unavailable for comment.
