Access – Flying Singapore First Class

The summary

There are exclusive lounges with strict entry requirements and there is the Private Room at Singapore Changhi Airport, reserved for those flying in Singapore A380 Suites or 777 first class. Other Star Alliance first class passengers have access to the first class lounge, and there is a Silverkris lounge for business class passengers. The air of exclusivity permeates this lounge. You are in a secluded, elegant room with the best food I have ever eaten at an airport, wonderful amenities, and an attentive staff that manages the perfect blend of professionalism without being intrusive.

The lounge shares an entry with the other lounges in Terminal 3, but once showing your boarding pass, you are escorted to the private room.

The lounge does not have tarmac views but looks out on the high-end shopping that is everywhere at the airport – and the city for that matter. The lack of views was irrelevant to me as I felt I was in such a hushed intimate space. The entire lounge is mainly just one elegant room.

There are comfortable seats throughout and a dedicated sit-down dining area, but you are presented with a menu and can eat wherever you like. Since I booked the cook on the plane, I wanted something not too filling.  The excellent server recommended a salad and a couple of waygu beef skewers – which were cooked to perfection. For drinks, there is an extensive and high-end wine and champagne list as well as cocktails and mocktails.  There is a small buffet – but it seemed pointless in this lounge.

After my meal, I wanted to nap for an hour (I arrived early for my flight so I could experience all this lounge had to offer). No reclining lounge chair here!! You get a small bedroom – with an actual bed. I did not ask if there was a time limit. I set my clock for a 90 minute rest. After that, I took a shower – in what was the largest shower suite I ever was in and which included every possible product.

After my shower (and shave), I returned to the lounge and answered a few emails before heading to the gate. Outlets were easy to find.

Changhi airport is odd in that passport control is by the departure gates – so leave yourself some time to get to your plane. In addition, there are worlds of things to see (fish ponds, butterfly gardens, and naturally shopping) at this airport if you don’t want to spend all your time in the lounge.

The wrap

I rate this lounge 10/10. Best features: Amazing food, drinks, unparalleled service, exclusivity. Flaws: No tarmac views – but I did not mind.

Best credit card combinations for earning tons of transferable points
In our opinion, transferable points programs like Chase Ultimate Rewards and Amex Membership Rewards are the most valuable points (or “miles”) to accumulate. These points can often be used to book discounted travel and, even better, can be strategically transferred to airline and hotel programs when valuable awards are available. In some cases, it’s...
