Review: Capital One Lounge at New York JFK Airport (JFK), Terminal 4

by Adam Stuart | July 23, 2025 | 0 Comments

Another outstanding lounge by Capital One, which celebrates New York. Check out the bagels, cheeses, and the bar!

Coined Capital One’s “Flagship” outpost, this lounge has the design and elements that make these lounges favorites for travelers. This location has an authentic bagel bar, a cheese bar, and a cocktail bar with a New York themed flair.

The summary

The lounge is on the main level/shopping arcade of Terminal 4, which is filled the shops and restaurants and which connects the terminal’s two concourses. Entry is easily marked and is nearer to the B concourse.

Immediately upon entry, travelers are greeted with the same sort of comfortable and stylish seats that you can find in the other Capital One Lounges (Dulles, Dallas, Denver). As shown here, playful artwork adorns the lounge.

Just past this main entry seating, travelers arrive at one of the lounge’s outstanding New York touches: a real bagel bar. Bagels are by “Ess-a-bagel.” Carb lovers rejoice. The bagel bar was busy throughout my visit. The bagel bar features an barista/station as well as Capital One’s famed grab and go items. Across from the bagel bar is the another rather large coffee station. Just beyond the bagel station is comfortable seating, with tarmac views. I liked the ceiling sculpture here.

To the left is the main buffet. Capital One is famous for its individual plated portioned buffet offerings, and there were plenty of offerings as expected. I noticed rather quickly that none of the buffet items were hot items, just chilled options. Capital One opted to have the hot items ordered by travelers via a QR code, where they can be brought directly to a table. This made to order feature is unique to this location but is a key feature of Chase Sapphire Lounges. I am not sure why Capital One made this decision. Since I had a full meal at the Delta One Lounge, I did not eat here – but I should have grabbed a deviled egg.

Just past the main buffet is a large fountain/soft drink station. Past that is one of the unique features of the lounge: A cheesemonger bar. Alas, it was closed when I was there. Shame on the author for not grabbing a picture! However, lounge attendants were going through the lounge with a cart during my entire visit and offering customers a taste. These cheese and spread were delicious.

Across from the main buffet is the scrumptious looking dessert bar. I can let the pictures tell the story here. I could eat everything at the dessert bar! Behind the dessert bar is the main seating area for buffet customers. There are great tarmac views – at JFK is the perfect airport for that with carriers from all over the world.

If you take a right from the bagel bar, you will enter the very large bar area. I have never seen such an extensive bar menu. It was a book that was pages and pages long. What I loved is that there were sections (chapters) named after NYC neighborhoods (think Williamsburg, Red Hook, Greenwich Village), with drinks apparently associated with these areas. There is a chapter for beer, wine, and “rare” bottles. I did not open that last page – I will assume there is charge for the “rare” offerings.

In the back of the bar area are some private family style rooms which were occupied. As it was later in the afternoon, the lounge began to fill up – all those trans-Atlantic departures. There was a short wait for the restrooms, which were all single stall rooms. One knock might be that there was only one shower. I put myself on the waiting list, but I did not ask the attendant how long the wait was. It was very long (well over an hour). If you intend to use the shower, inquire when you enter the lounge and put your name of the list.

All in all, while it did not have the relaxation pods or exercise equipment as does the DFW Capital One outpost, this lounge is a wonderful place to chill and EAT and drink before your flight. I would just come for the bagels! The cheese was delicious and though I do not eat much dairy, I would have sat at the cheese monger station. I want to add that throughout the lounge, staff was always present, cleaning up and asking travelers whether they could get something for them.

The wrap

…The details. Date – June 18, 2025. Rating: Exceptional. Access: Capital One Venture X card.

What I like: The bagel bar, the bar, the cheese station, the staff.

What I don’t like: Only one shower suite
