Review: United Club at Washington Dulles Int’l Airport (IAD), C Gates
Large and dated lounge with no windows, but good to get work done
The rather large United Club at IAD (C gates), like all the Dulles United Clubs (not Polaris) is caught in a time-warp with a dated design, no windows, but has plenty of places to charge your devices and get work done.
The summary
Seasoned travelers know that the regular United Clubs at IAD are very depressing in terms of design. These lounges never benefitted from the mid-2010s refresh and definitely do not reflect United’s current upgraded decor that have stylish nods to their location
The entrance to this lounge is near C17 and is directly across from the outstanding Polaris lounge. Guests enter the lounge on the concourse level and then, after clearing reception, have to descend down to the ground level to access the main part of the lounge. To the right of reception are some blue egg-style chairs that look out over the tarmac – but those are the only seats with a view. To the left of reception is an elevator or staircase which lounge guests must use to descend into the lounge. There are some nice photos by the staircase.

Once you descend, guests are greeted with a customer service desk where agents can assist travelers with flight connections. The desk was busy so I did not take a picture. To the immediate right is the deemed business center with several work cubicles. These are ideal for getting work done. Each cubicle has two outlets. United does a good job with outlets and connectivity. Walk past the reception desk, guests come across the main part of the lounge, which is really one large room. The room has a variety of tables, chairs, hi-top tables that will be familiar to United travelers.

In the middle of the room is the buffet. The dining options for lunch were pretty substantial: sandwiches, salads, soups, a taco station, fruit, and some cookies.

Beverage options include a free-style soda machine, infused water, coffee, and an espresso machine. Along the far wall is the rather non-descript bar, which like all bars in United Clubs charges guests for premium offerings but well drinks are complentary.

As per usual, the internet was not password protected and worked very well. Outlets were available throughout the lounge. The staff worked hard to keep the lounge tidy – it was rather crowded late in the afternoon. Yet, found the United Club by the D gates to be nicer – with at least some windows and being better divided into separate areas.

…What I like: Outlet availability, business center
…What I don’t like: The limited buffet, the very drab and dated decor, lack of views.
