Los Angeles Woman Plans Summer Euro-Trip With Best Friend. Then Her Friend Does The ‘Ultimate Betrayal’: ‘You’re Too Calm Actually’

Los Angeles-based Chloe Chang is more than upset, she’s a self-identified hater. The reason? A European girls’ trip suddenly gone boy-inclusive. Now two friends suddenly find themselves with a surprise third. Because one of them has fallen in love. Or something like it.
In a viral post, Chang (@chl6echang), a TikTok creator with a focus on beauty, describes a text she got from her travel companion.
“Call me bitter,” Chang begins in the video that’s been viewed over 278,100 times. “But, my homegirl hit me with a text this morning, and I was hoping it was an April Fool’s text,” she says.
But it’s not that simple. In the text, her bestie shares some news: “So-and-so and I started dating for real.”
Chang is not impressed. She’s also not celebrating. And she’s not extending any travel invitations.
“Right,” she says with an unhappy twist of her lips. “Right before summer.”
Did Her Friend Try To Back Out Of The Trip?
“Mind you, her and I planned an extensive summer Euro trip,” says Chang giving a little context for her reaction.
But her friend isn’t calling to cancel the trip, she wants to amend it. “Is it cool if,” her friend asks, “he comes with?”
“Just for a little bit,” the friend clarifies.
“F—- no,” Chang says with a look of extreme annoyance.
She continues, “Babe, I love you [and] you’re probably going to see this, but f—- no.”
Is She Justified For Refusing To Let The Boyfriend Come?
Then she pivots, looking directly at the internet asking: “Am I being a hater? I literally can’t tell.” She then answers herself, “Nah, this is like the ultimate betrayal.”
“This is betrayal,” she says. Then she points out something making her day ever worse: a blemish right between her eyes. “Peep this s—,” she grumbles.
Based on comments on her post, everyone agrees: her feelings are valid.
“That is actually worst case scenario,” said .Coco.tv.
Another user said, “I did a girls trip with a friend (we both had bfs) and she was just on the phone arguing with him the entire time. We are no longer friends.”
Kathy agreed, “Oh aaaaabsolutely not hateration. I would be so mad and upset and disappointed that she even suggested it.”
While MizzMauu answered the question posed at the beginning of the video: “You’re not bitter, that’s foul.”
Should I Bring My Boyfriend On A Girls’ Trip?
It’s girl code, right? You don’t bring your boyfriend (or husband) along on the girls’ trip. Why? Because almost always, the friend vibe is totally different from the partner vibe. Oftentimes female friends just want to hang out with one another, not tend to the nuanced emotional dynamic often present in a romantic relationship.
So how should you handle a friend’s request to bring along their significant other? If you’re genuinely uncomfortable with it, it’s probably best to be kind but upfront, don’t mince words, and offer to refund any money that’s been paid towards the trip.
If the shoe is on the other foot and you can’t be away from that special person for even a long weekend, then you should probably book a separate room. Chances are your friends will still want to hang out, even if that doesn’t mean late-night pajama parties.
So is Chang a hater? That depends on how you want to see Europe: with your bestie, or with your bestie and her brand new beau.
