Review: Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge (Revisited) – New York LaGuardia (LGA)

A vastly underrated lounge

The summary

While the Capital One Landing, the Chase Sapphire Lounge, and the American Express Centurion Lounge receive well-deserved plaudits in LaGuardia’s beautiful Terminal B, Air Canada’s Maple Leaf Lounge is a great place to wait for a flight. The lounge reflects how important NYC is to Air Canada, with numerous flights throughout the day to Toronto (Pearson and Billy Bishop) and Montreal.

The lounge is located above the gates in the eastern concourse, which houses United, Frontier, Air Canada, Jetblue and Southwest. After walking over the skybridge, entry to the lounge is on the left– just before the escalator takes you down to the gates – and just across from the United Club, which is to the right. One oddity: a United flyer that has Star Alliance Gold status can access the Maple Leaf Lounge but not the neighboring United Club without a club membership.

I love the décor of this lounge. There is a variety of seating options, and the lounge itself is divided by wood-slated dividers. The appearance of red chairs gives the lounge a much-needed splash of color. My favorite place to sit is the quiet sectioned off area immediately behind the reception desk. This area has comfortable sofas and small wood tables.

Seating in the main dining area is a combination of traditional tables and a hi-top table. The lounge itself overlooks the gate concourse, so tarmac views are limited (but possible through the concourse windows).

The breakfast buffet is a highlight. It was amazingly well stocked with pancakes, french toast, scrambled eggs, potatoes, grilled vegetables, bacon and more. It all seemed very fresh. Next to these hot items there was a variety of fruit and yogurt. Across from the main food island there were cereals and breads.

Beverages included a soft drink machine, coffee, tea, and an espresso machine. Alcohol is not served until 11 AM. But alcoholic beverages are self-serve. There is a beer tap but the bottles of wine and spirits was not out yet.
