Honeymooners Miss Flight Then Sprint To Make Their Connection To St. Lucia. When They Land, They Realize Their Fatal Mistake

Most airlines recommend leaving at least two hours for layovers on international connecting flights. This gives you enough time to account for slight delays, security checks, and getting from one gate to another.

However, even if you follow that simple advice, major delays can still mess up your timeline and cause you to either miss or sprint for your next flight.

But even if you make that connection, you might regret it when you reach your final destination.

That’s exactly what happened to TikTok creator Macey (@macey_mexico) and her new husband as they were flying to their honeymoon destination, St. Lucia.

In a TikTok video that got over 9.3 million views, she filmed an interaction with a Delta Air Lines agent as they received some bad news.

What Went Wrong With Their Flight?

“I’m sorry, what exactly does this mean?” Macey asks a Delta agent at the beginning of the video. “We have to rebook our bags to Atlanta?”

“You’re missing your flight,” the agent responds. “I have to rebook you.”

It’s not clear from the video what went wrong with the first part of their journey. It’s possible the couple had multiple connections, and one of their flights was delayed.

Either way, Macey was worried about whether they’d make it to St. Lucia.

“Is there anything you can do? ‘Cause we’re on our honeymoon,” she asks, getting emotional. “I don’t know whether to cry or laugh right now.”

The video cuts to the couple already onboard another plane, with text explaining that their flight had been delayed by another hour.

“I’m gonna crash out,” Macey says. “We just tied our shoes ’cause we’re gonna have to sprint the fastest we’ve ever ran.”

As soon as they got off the plane in Atlanta, they started running through the airport.

“We gotta go to the plane right now,” Macey says after finding their gate.

Unfortunately, getting there also required taking the airport train.

“Could this train take any longer?” Macey asks as they wait.

Once off the train, the sprint starts again.

“Sorry,” he says while making his way past people on an escalator. “Got a honeymoon to catch.”

Eventually, they reach the gate.

“We made it by a hair,” she says. “I don’t think I’ve ever ran so fast in my life.”

“This will be a story we tell our kids one day,” she added in the caption.

While the couple made it onto the plane, something else didn’t.

“You know what sprinting to your next gate means? No luggage when you land,” one commenter wrote.

“And that’s exactly wha happened,” Macey responded.

Why Didn’t Their Bags Make It Even Though They Did?

The reason their bags didn’t get to St. Lucia when they did is because the journey of checked bags during transfer is more complicated than that of a passenger.

Once a flight lands, workers have to unload the bags and separate those staying in the airport from those making a connection. Transfer bags then have to make their way toward the next aircraft.

A large airport may have things like long conveyor belts, baggage carts, tugs, sorting equipment, and transportation between terminals, such as the train the couple had to take.

A tight connection gives that process very little room for error.

SITA, an aviation technology company that tracks baggage trends worldwide, found that transfers still caused 39% of mishandled bags in 2025. Even though airlines have been investing in technology to automate the system and reduce the errors and costs related to them, transfers are still the leading cause of baggage arriving late or getting lost.

A Good Test For A New Marriage

While the delayed luggage (Macey said it eventually arrived) was unfortunate, some people zeroed in on the honeymooners’ reaction to the stressful situation.

“This is actually a good thing. A problem came up, you both worked together, supported each other, and won the game. Congratulations,” one wrote.

Others noticed that they weren’t the only ones running.

“The way EVERYONE was running!”  another wrote. “This has to be the most stressful airport on the planet, what is happening.”

“Everybody and their brother were experiencing delays,” Macey responded.

“I know that marg on the beach must have hit DIFFERENT after all that,” a third wrote.

Macey and Delta Air Lines did not respond to requests for comment.
