Review: American Airlines Flagship Lounge – Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), Terminal D

by Adam Stuart | July 19, 2026 | 0 Comments

Elevated lounge highlighted by its buffet and cooking station

The summary

American Airlines elevated Flagship Lounge is in Terminal D at DFW Airport, which is one of the nicest terminals in the US. Entry to the lounge is shared with a traditional Admirals Club near gate D 23. Previously, the Flagship Lounge shared an entry with the nearby Capital One Lounge.

The entry desk is rather utilitarian, with no clue that the Flagship Lounge is an elevated lounge. After presenting your credentials (or buying access), guests must take an elevator up one floor to the lounge. I was greeted by an additional reception desk and presented by pass to one of the attendants. The Flagship Lounge entry is to the right – the Admirals Club is on the left.

The lounge is one very long room with amazing views of the tarmac. Nice partitions break up the space. Seating is unbelievably varied: typical lounge seats, table seating near the buffet, high-top tables, and semi-private work stations. Attractive paintings adorn the lounge as well. I like the use of wood throughout to add warmth to the space. But I have visited regular Admirals Clubs in the past – such as at LGA and BOS – and the decor here at the Flagship Lounge does not stand out

One highlight of the lounge is the TV room and a quiet room with recliners. However, this is not as private as the nap rooms in a United Polaris Lounge.

The buffet is a highlight. I was in the lounge for breakfast and items on offer include: scrambled eggs (which didn’t look so good), bacon, potatoes, latkes (that’s a plus!), a spicy chicken poached egg waffe (!), French toast, poached peaches, muffins, overnight oats, parfait, fresh fruit, and more. This is an excellent buffet!

The food highlight has to be the omelet station. An open cooking station is one my favorite lounge food options. I love having eggs made for me. I had some scrambled egg whites with spinach, onions, and bacon. This more than made up for the unattractive eggs in the buffet. Next to the open cooking station was a noodle/broth bar,

There are two soft drink areas: one closer to the entry and one by the buffet. There are refrigerators with several options as well as free-style soda machines. There is coffee (Lavazza), tea, as well as espresso machines. There are also infused water stations.

Alcoholic drinks are all self-serve. On Sundays, the liquor is put out at 10 AM. But there is a huge selection on offer. At the early hour I was in the lounge, the full complement of spirits and wine was not available yet. I saw beer in the refrigerator – but did not see whether it was unlocked. However, it looked like folks could make bloody mary’s and margaritas. Some may prefer a manned bar – others may prefer this option.

There are several well-appointed shower suites, with great water pressure. Since it was very warm in the terminal, I rinsed off in one.

The internet was password protected and was very fast. Outlets are everywhere (US airlines do a great job with connectivity). The staff was the epitome of Texas-friendliness. Washrooms are communal.

I long wanted to visit an American Flagship Lounge and compare it to Delta One Lounges and United Polaris Lounges. This lounge nails the basics for a business class lounge, but it does not wow travelers like a Delta One Lounge, nor does it have the elegance and exclusivity of Polaris Lounges. Sit down dining and the manned bar are exclusive to the “Flagship First” section of the lounge, which is limited to qualifying passengers in international routes. That said, this lounge does offer paid access for domestic passengers. Check American Airlines for the complex entry rules. All in all it’s an excellent lounge – but I did expect a bit more.
