Review: United Club – San Antonio International (SAT), Terminal
Small former Continental Presidents Club is dated but staff is wonderful and buffet is decent
The summary
The lounge is near gate B3 at SAT airport. With a whopping number of short flights to Houston, as well as nonstop service to most of its other hubs, United is smart to keep a lounge in San Antonio. Just by looking at the décor, little has changed since this was a Continental Presidents Club. However, the buffet for such a small space was decent, and the staff was genuinely friendly. The lounge suffers from crowding and the lack of washrooms.
Entrance to the lounge is clearly marked by gate B3. There is some artwork near the entrance, and the friendly staff started decorating the reception desk for Halloween.

Take a left past reception and travelers enter the lounge, which is just one room. The far wall is glass, which affords guests with a view of the tarmac. The airport is undergoing a major expansion, which is clearly viewable. [The new concourse is to house American, Delta, and Southwest]. There is a hi-top counter along the windows and along one wall. There are typical beige chairs, with tables on the side that all have outlets. There were a few blue chairs near the entrance – chairs that are typical of even the newer United Clubs. .Closer to the buffet are a series of round tables for eating.

The buffet is rather substantial. Items include: an apple salad with fennel and cheddar; a kale salad, a quinoa and squash bowl, a turkey wrap, a curried chickpea salad wrap, antipasto, butternut squash soup, pork carnitas, hummus and chips, and dessert including a pumpkin mousse. There were some jars with snacks near the entrance.

The small bar was as expected. There was a decent selection of wine and spirits, with a charge for more premium offerings. There was Illy coffee, an espresso machine, and a selection of teas.

Some domestic United Clubs in non-hub airports are rather nice (Boston, LaGuardia). Others, like this one, are in dire need of a renovation. As in all United Clubs, internet was very fast and there were outlets throughout. The lounge in the afternoon was crowded. The lack of washrooms in the lounge remains a problem. However, the staff was wonderful. For United flyers, this lounge remains a decent place to check emails and have a snack.
